Happy New Year! Happy new Daily Tally!

I decided that since I said I was sure I could find 500 things to get rid of in my home this year, I would make my goal 600 in 2024, to stretch myself a bit.

Today I donated: 6 items of clothing, threw out an old bowl, and sold a stroller that was in the garage.

2024: 8/600

2023: 1002+ items gone

Well, I just got a bunch of exercise by trying to force myself into every pair of clean jeans I own.

Also, I no longer want a snack.

I added two pairs of jeans to the leaving pile.

So,

46/366

I have a drawer with my fair t-shirts and jeans I can only wear at home (good for working on the farm)

A drawer with school t-shirts and jeans I can wear in public (although some of them are pretty tight)

A small stack of embarrassingly too tight on a closet shelf and a larger (because Dd bought me 3 pairs of thrifted jeans in a very old size for Christmas) stack of "well, technically they zip."

It's hard to admit that our lives are too much in survival mode sometimes to allow for repair projects unless we can do them immediately. The struggle is real.

I had switched my purse awhile back, and the old one is too beat up to keep, but I'd had a few misc. items in the old one yet. Yesterday I got those out and in the new purse, so the old one can go in the trash tomorrow.

Lila, good for you digging into the hard stuff.

I find that sometimes if I shift categories or areas after doing that, a place that was hard before gets easier.

Four lidded plastic bowls to donate pile - I actually found those the othe4 day in the studio, but they were dusty, so I wanted to run them through the dishwasher before I donated them.

This is definitely poco a poco, as I'm just posting about single items I get rid of right now. But hopefully it'll pick up.

So today - besides the aforementioned pink purse from yesterday that did get into the dumpster today, I added the motor part of my old shredder. Alas, I confess I probably killed it myself by getting impatient and trying to put too much through - hadn't realized it was badly jammed. I'd had it for years though, and they don't last forever.

Also, the bucket part I'll give to the thrift shop; perhaps someone can use it as a wastebasket. Oh, and that reminds me, earlier in the week I'd put a tote tub I don't like into the van, so it will also be going away.

That's three things this week, so...

SubC you are here posting away!! Way to stay accountable! I will join you. Time to get moving again. Donated:

- one water bottle
- a box of new ornaments (counting as one item)
- a bag of books that I actually threw out. Someone gave me a bog bag of kid's books but over half of them were in such bad shape they are worthless. Wet, warped, torn, stained. Counting as one item since they were given to me (a long long time ago)

hi CM, very poco a poco here as well. Pocito, is that a smaller little?? Something like that.

I did not even move anything out of my house recently, but today I went in the garage and sorted empty totes and a pile of empty lids. Finally I found a matching lid! I took the tote with its lid and put it in my bedroom. That is something, right?

I will wipe it out/off with cleaner, and then I will start putting things into it to get them off my floor and out of my room, although to where, I don't know. I will also have an empty box for donations and a bag for trash as I sort, so hopefully something will come of it.

Still 269/600

oh and SubC, sometimes we have to cheer just for keeping track, maybe?? LOL

on things... as my TotsFam has taken over a good deal of the space here, and as TotsDad makes small renovations or adjustments like mounting a TV on the wall and running wires, drilling holes, etc, I see this space more as theirs and less as mine. Which is good, it is what I want, but it also feels odd. There is more of their stuff here, or maybe equally at least as much as there is mine. Also exDH has decided to stop paying rent for storing his things, but has not said anything about coming to get them or anything. I would say if I moved his things out, it would take about 4 full-sized pick up truck loads. A small moving van maybe. I have done a cursory sorting of his things as you may remember, to get rid of mouse/bug infested stuff. But I would probably need to sort again before getting rid of, to be sure nothing of value is going. I still have a bit of poverty mindset and don't want to get rid of anything I could sell for more than, say $30 or $40. If course, I need to clarify with ex that he really does not want any of this stuff before disposing of anything. I hope to find some things for Teen to have of her father's, even if she doesn't care right now, she may someday.

now that was a ramble!

4 rubber ducks scattered around school for the kids to find (there is a duck hunt theme going on this year and various people have been hiding various types of ducks)

Lila, if he has stopped paying rent, you need to look up the abandoned property laws in your state and notify him that you will be disposing of all of his belongings x number of days after the last rent payment. You do not have to clarify that he doesn't want it.

You can start resorting and putting items into sealed boxes or bags now that can go straight to trash or donation on the day. - seal them so you feel confident.

After a week away I am feeling ready to dig back into this project.

I will have a little more space because I took two bins to Birdy and only brought one bin home, but I don't count the baby things that rotate in and out - they are really under the control of my kids and I allow them storage space.

I did take two books to Birdy from my bookshelf, so that puts me at 74/366

Today is the 78th day of the year, so I am behind by 4.

Chipping away, SubC! Good work.

Gone from my bedroom:
- one bag of clothes someone gave me months ago (counting as one item)
- one pair of jeans I had decided to keep, but I have too much stuff, so...
- two balls for dogs (too small for mine)
- one thick magazine, the kind that is more like a book
- one plastic zippered thing for clothes that is too small

Good job Lila! I knew you could find something in your bedroom!

I backslid today, but it is ok.

I brought home that swing.

So, the box of ordered toys arrived. Some are staying in the box for birthday or Christmas (I basically order from this place once or twice a year to make best use of sales and points). Others are going in Bean's Easter basket. Two are actually for me. A really cool dragon and a little flamingo. I already tucked them on shelves. So - I'm up two things.

Here's your push, SubC. PUSH! What can go today?

I finally got rid of a couple things today.
- a bath brush that I noticed has specks of black-colored mold growing in it. Very disappointing as it is not that old, but it is not worth it to me to try and clean it, so it went in the trash.
- an old pillow I have been using, while I had a brand new pillow in packaging in the corner of my bedroom for months. I opened the new pillow and put a pillowcase on it and put it on my bed, and the old floppy flat one went into the trash.

Bean and I stopped at the giant farm store today. I bought him a new hand trowel and a cultivator rake to keep here.

(I also bought three t-posts, but those are garden structure and don't count.)

Departed on board the garbage truck this morning - one dead mouse that I had been smelling off and on in the living room near my computer. The nasty smell came and went for a few days. I was about to blame the dog, but that didn't add up so I kept looking. Found it under my paper trimmer that was sitting on the floor.

I hope it is the same one from last year now gone for good, and that there aren't any more. Nasty nasty odor and just overall disgusting to deal with. Luckily still in one piece and could be flipped into a plastic bag for disposal. Ugh.

CM,

I'm glad the mouse is gone.

Lila, I laughed when you cheered for me, my last few posts have been things that came in, not things that went out.

I'm still at 73/366. I've mostly been working (slowly) on the counter and the only outs have been obvious bits of trash and recycling, which I am not counting.

I will make progress again eventually. For now I am Justin a place where I am trying to deal with the balance of daily life.
