THE DAILY TALLY

The Daily Tally

Here is our Daily Tally thread.

Anyone can post here and can share what they are decluttering. You can use whatever unit works for you:

cubic feet cleared
pounds of stuff gone
number of items donated
number of bags or boxes gone
whatever works!

It's a way to see and report the progress we are making on clearing out space in our homes. You can set a goal for each day, week, or month or you can just share as you wish.

Let's celebrate the progress we are making!

Like Covid mask, or like sleep mask?

I hope that the person who broke the tv is now doing without tv. Not as punishment, but because actions have consequences.

I worked in the studio today. And the basement.

Yard - 1
Basement - 4
Porch - 2
Studio - 5
Barn - 1
Garden - 1

And technically the garden and barn because I put down more cardboard and manure, but honestly it didn't make enough difference to count. Maybe in the garden.

Garden - 2?

SubC, covid mask. I had quite a collection going on. Since the restrictions were lifted, I put most of them in a quart sized ziplock baggie in the coat closet, all washed. I donated maybe 5 or 6. The only time I use them now is if I go on an airplane, because sometimes I end up sitting near someone who is coughing and snotting all over the plane, and I feel better with a mask on... whether it helps or not. (Why are people so inconsiderate?)

oh, I forgot to answer about the tv. The one in their room would be in the living room now. Any of my other kids, that would be the consequence, absolutely. (Although none of my other kids ever had a tv in their room...) It is complicated when someone hates themselves and is self harming already. They regret it and apologized and offered to pay. I give them more grace than anyone else, because they are on the tipping edge of hopelessness all the time. Right now we are just trying to get them through the crisis and then, most likely, they can work to replace it.

In the meantime, I am driving to a lot of therapists and doctors and such, and learning to do without tv.

SubC, you are persisting!

I got my two days off and will be updating throughout! This morning I threw out 6 items which included 4 old, ripped dog toys that were probably smelly and had stuffing about to come out.

This morning I went in the garage and consolidated donations in a box. Then I went into a large bin I have downstairs of clothes that are too small for me. Some new with tags. I was able to donate 10 items and throw away one. (I also gave a shirt to my kid and found 2 pairs of socks I can wear, but I am not counting those as they did not leave my house).

Yay, SubC! You are doing great! I am glad you came back to Tally with me!

I have not started working on the Tally for today, but that's next, and I will come back and add to my tally!

Yesterday was garden and barn, today was garden and garage.

Also, I added wrong, so now the corrected total is:
Garden 6
Studio 2
Yard 2
Barn 2
Basement 1
Garage 1

The tally is the number of days I did something to make the zone better. Some days it's only removing one item or putting some things away, and other days it might be a few hours.

I think the most important thing right now is that I am paying regular attention and not just letting things slide.

How did you do Lila?

Yesterday I worked on the garden and a little on the barn. Still making progress somewhere every day and pretty much "keeping up."

Garden - 4
Porch - 3
Studio - 1
Basement - 3
Barn - 1

I've been keeping a running list of things I "added to my plate" and trying to clear them off as part of "keeping up" (which also includes laundry, dishes, mail, email, rinsing the recycling, and occasional vacuuming)

So, for example, I picked some beets at school the other day. I added "beets" to my list and then took them off once I had washed them and stored both the tops and the roots separately and ready to use. I also put "summer reading program" on my list so I can keep an eye on places I have committed my time.

Wow SubC, you have been doing amazing while I was gone! Great work and very inspiring! I am back to join you.

Today I tossed out an old washcloth, a pair of underwear, and a nonstick pan that has the nonstick flaking off.

New week.

At this point the garden is maintenance,so even though I pulled a few weeds. I am not counting garden work any more. Only progress, not maintenance.

Also, the work I did in the barn today was overdue animal care, I did it do anyth8ng that actually made the barn better, so I am only counting planting things in the yard.

Yard - 1

This week should be yard/barn/and studio focused.

So I got about 10% of the way to my goal and lost interest again.

Lila, maybe you will teach me perseverance.

Meanwhile, something new - today I worked on:
The garden
The barn
The yard
The basement.

Probably next week I will start taking things places. Or Wednesday. This week I'm trying to stay home except for Wednesday, and home does not have trash, recycling, or charity pick up, so unless I burn it or compost it, it just stays here.

This morning's tally from the storage unit = 2 to 3 cubic feet, mostly rubber stamps and books. A few religious ones I'm going to see if the teachers at the parish school would like for the kids to use. The rest will go to the garage sale to see if they sell. Leftovers will go in church rummage sale in June.

Two of those diocesan newspapers that I was saying I need to move on out of here. It's a start. I'm not trying to read all of each paper, just doing a quick flip through.

Also one free agricultural newspaper that they distribute around here at grocery stores, and that I pick up for the Sudoku. Usually I'm good about getting them gone promptly after finishing the puzzle, but this one must've slid down out of sight. We keep a SMALL stack of newspapers for soaking up spills, so it's still technically here but not in my room and if that stack got too big we would reduce it.
