I am a 50 year old hoarder with a new grandson and my children have 'lovingly' told me to shape up or they will restrict visitation with grandson. I cannot blame them for their reasons but I cannot do this by myself! My spouse cannot understand why I cannot motivate myself to clean up by myself, and he cannot or will not help with cleaning/sorting. I am a compulsive shopper and I have mountains of clothes, purses, shoes, etc. I have bookcases stacked 3 deep with books and a mountain of books stacked on the floor in front of the bookscases. Can anyone suggest support groups in the Omaha metro area that I can contact?

Hi Michelle,

I'm a 61 yr old mother so as you tell us about your mom I may be able to give you a little perspective on what she might be feeling and how to handle it. Right off the bat I can tell you I have a 31 yr old daughter who used to try to *help* and I didn't see it that way. It wasn't until she backed off and just accepted me that I have begun to make progress.

Hope you find the help here that you're looking for.

take care ~ Dianne

Hi , welcome. Tough to help someone unless they ask for your help. Does mom think hoarding is her problem?
