My husband "Ralph"s father was a hoarder, not as bad as some on TV, but his house was still very cluttered. Ralph is also showing tendencies. Unfortunately Ralph's dad just passed away and I know that it will be a struggle for Ralph to let go of all the worthless possesions. Dad lived alone and there are no other sibilings. My first instict is to have it all hauled away, but I don't want to be that insensitive and I don't want any of the junk in my house. We're talking yellow pages from a decade ago, broken tv's and at least 10 telephones - when we don't even have a landline!

Please let me know the best way to handle the situation without being to insensitive or losing my mind

Ally

It is difficult to respond to your question without having some idea how your husband is going to handle going through his father's possessions, as opposed to imagining what he MIGHT do.

Hauling everything away without his permission would be a huge mistake, in my view.

Have you spoken at all about what you (both) are going to do?
