I'm alone in Atlanta. I just graduated from college, haven't found a job yet. My apartment complex has given me a few chances to clean up my hoard, but it always comes back and now it's worse than ever. My lease is up, and my apartment complex has refused to renew my lease because of the "unsanitary conditions" in my home. I don't know what to do. I've been trying to find a new apartment, but no one will take me because I'm unemployed. I need my apartment to extend my lease. I'm alone in atlanta. My mother is in jail, and my father is an alcoholic who still lives with his parents. I have no where to go. I'm so scarred. What can I do or say to get my apartment to extend my lease? How do I explain my hoard and get help? I'm just really scared and I don't know what to do. | |

Kassie, how good to see you back and with such a bright update! Yes, you can do it. If you are in an apartment complex, especially near a college, you can put items out by a dumpster and other people can pick and choose. At least, when I moved out that's what I saw. I want to suggest that you can come back here for support in maintaining your new environment so it does not get to that point again. It is a relearning process. There is a "daily" message thread you can check with each day. Also, given your parents' situations, you might consider going to some Alanon meetings to help you heal and learn to establish good boundaries to protect yourself and grow further. This group has truly given me hope. I've started moving things into my new apartment. I have until the 7th to be completely moved out. I've gotten so much trash out of my apartment already. It already looks like a different place. It's going to be touqh getting everything moved on time, but I think I can do it. I'm starting to feel very hopeful for this new start | |

It sounds like you are making good steps toward a move. I agree with Dianne here in all things! If some of the things you plan to leave behind are in good enough shape for donation, you can call local charities and see if anyone can pick things up on your last day. Another idea is to put things on craigslist as free for pickup. I had a friend list her couch (new allergies) and it was gone the same day to a family happy to have a nice new to them couch. Keep up with the picking up and throwing away of trash, as many bags as you can manage without exhaustion.

Hi Kassie, Congratulations on making decisions and taking action! That's huge! It's wonderful that you found your kitty babies a good home together. It's an extremely hard decision to let animals go but you did it responsibly and with love. Since they are bonded the adjustment will be much easier for them. And it's good that you have decided to keep your doggy baby. With all the changes in your life now he/she will be a loving constant. Although it may be hard to see at the time sometimes the most devastating things can work out to be the spark we needed. It sounds like this truly will be a new start for you. All the best and let us know how you keep moving forward. Remember that pauses in your action are simply rest periods and setbacks do not last. 🙂 | |

Thank you Tillie. I found a good home for my 2 cats. They will be much happier with a yard to play in instead of just my apartmenht. Now it's just me and my small dog (my baby.) I still have 11 days to get everything moved out. I've chosen a lot of furniture to leave behind and I'm really making progress. I think this is really going to be a good new start for me. This site has been such an encouragement and morale booster. | |

thank you guys so much. I've found an apartment. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to move everything. A lot of my hoard is just trash. But Some of it is good clothes and stuff I need. So I'm in the process of separating the good from the bad. | |

Hi, and welcome. I am sorry about your folks, too. Do you have any other relatives at all that might be able to put you up short-term? Do you have a car? Do you have any money for a deposit on a new apartment, or to kick in your share of rent with a roommate situation? Perhaps you can talk with your apt manager and see if you can get an extension to give you a little time. I agree that you need to start packing up your essentials and things you don't want to leave behind. If you have a car you can plan to store some there, or at least put them there if you have to get out. You can put a notice up at your college regarding a roommate situation. See if your college has any post-graduation counseling or assistance available. Sometimes local charities will help, too. Let us know what you have and how we can help. If you have a few minutes, pick up a grocery or garbage bag and start filling it right now. When full or at a weight that is manageable, put it outside in the garbage or by your door to take next time you go out. If you are behind in laundry, do one load today or tomorrow. We care. You might not be able to get your own apartment but you can get or share a room with someone. Put up a notice at local churches for renting a room. You may need to leave a lot of possessions behind. Start assembling the most urgent things you own and prepare to leave the rest. New beginning. I'm sorry about your parents, that's awful. Keep us posted. | |
