Hi Tillie, Thanks for your concern and best wishes. I will check out the book you mentioned. To add to the entertainment, our 32 year old son, his wife, 21 month old daughter and dog have moved in for awhile until they can afford a house. A lot of their stuff and plants are now mingled in with some of my husband's stuff and he is not happy to have any of his items messed with. This is such a pleasant household and I'm in the middle! Thanks for letting me vent.

Hello Jane
Sorry for your troubles.
Not much you can do about his hoarding.
A good book for you to read is "Digging Out" to get a better understanding of hoarding and the thinking behind it.
About the locked areas, I suggest you contact an attorney and find out your rights concerning these areas.

Good luck and best wishes. :)

I am so stressed and don't know what to do. My husband not only fills our family room and laundry room with floor to ceiling stuff, but he locks rooms in the basement that are completely filled and I am not allowed to go in them. Years ago I saw a wasp's nest in there, along with broken stuff and who knows what. Our garage finally has room for one car, but the rest is filled and many old bikes are hanging from the ceiling. He built a shed which is filled and locked so I can't get in. We have a small apartment building that we own and manage. The basement has several rooms which are filled with furniture and junk and are now locked to me. The office is in the basement and is half-filled with stuff. There is a small pathway in the hallway. Also, my husband has at least one storage unit and maybe more. I really need help and don't want to deal with this any longer.
