If your mom is a senior, she may qualify for help from the local Area Agency on Aging.
Look in blue pages or google AAA for your county.
In Philadelphia county, though our lovely Govenor has slashed funding, the AAA had a contract to de-clutter homes that seniors were livng in that were a risk to the senior.

My hoarder is now on Medicaid and I have found a list of hoarding/ocd/anxiety experts on this site that accept Medicaid- I just need to get hoarder and help together....

Good Luck!

Unortunately, when there is no money to help pay for the services, there are not many options. Look into county programs for counseling and therapy. Some colleges may also have students that have not graduated yet that may be able to help. I do think that therapy from someone trained in the appropriate field is extremely important though. As far as the cleaning goes, look for church groups, students that need volunteer hours, even a boy scout troup. If all else fails, the family is going to need to pull together to do the work themselves. Only other option is to leave it as is, and that could be disastrous. My only advice is to be careful letting complete strangers into the house as you have no idea who they are and what they are capable of. Typically the hoarder is the biggest problem, but one they have agreed to a cleanup it is time to be resourceful and see what is out there near you.

Trying to help my mom, and I know it is an excuse, MONEY, but it is a real factor. Therapists, cleaners, they cost money. (no, the TV show is not an option. Not everyone wants to deal with their problems in public)

So, how can I help my mom help herself when the money isn't there for the extras? (hooray for free message boards! great start!!)
