POSITION: Peer Facilitator
REPORTS TO: Community Projects Manager
SALARY/ BENEFITS:
$16.83/hour; Full benefits package (includes
medical, dental, vision, EAP, paid vacation, and
other benefits)
HOURS/STATUS: Full-time (40 hrs. per week) / Non-Exempt
Overview of Position:
Under the direction of the Community Projects Manager, the Peer Facilitator provides
outreach and support for individuals with hoarding and cluttering challenges by
facilitating Buried in Treasures (BiT) mutual support groups. BiT groups are focused
peer-led groups that follow a step-by-step guide to understanding why an individual
clutters and how he/she can change their thinking and behavior. The Peer Facilitator is
part of a research project between the Mental Health Association of San Francisco
(MHASF) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and funded by the
Patient Centered Outcome Research Institute (PCORI).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
?X Co-facilitate a total of 15 peer-led Buried in Treasures mutual support groups at
sites in Alameda, San Mateo, and San Francisco County.
?X Procure sites for mutual support groups and leverage resources with community
partners for groups
?X Assist individuals with setting goals in their recovery process with an emphasis
on harm reduction and empowerment.
?X Actively participate in weekly planning, training, and project coordination.
?X Assist with community presentations to non-profit partners, city departments,
mental health consumers, and community groups.
?X Maintain records, spreadsheets, and logs of activities.
?X Provide support and referrals to other individuals dealing with hoarding
challenges.
?X Other duties as assigned by the Community Projects Manager and Deputy
Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
?X Lived personal experience with hoarding and cluttering challenges and
commitment to recovery model.
?X Collaborative team working style with ability to relate effectively with people from
diverse backgrounds.
?X Excellent group and meeting facilitation skills.
?X Commitment to consumer empowerment, culturally responsive services, and
nonjudgmental harm reduction approach.
Organized, resourceful, and able to multi-task and manage time well.
?X Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
?X Computer skills including Internet, Microsoft Word and Excel.
?X Commitment to the mission, vision and values of MHASF.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
?X Bilingual in Spanish or Cantonese.
?X Previous experience with project coordination and implementation.
?X Experience with peer/consumer empowerment and peer specialist services.
?X Direct experience with hoarding and cluttering programs/projects/training.
?X Individuals with lived experience of mental illness/psychiatric disabilities are
encouraged to apply.
