I am 20 years old and I am a hoarder. As hard as that is to admit, I have been a hoarder for a minimum of 5 years and a possible of 8. I want to better understand, why I am this way? Right now my hoarding is contained to my room and I have a storage unit. But I have just purchased a house and I am afraid that my hoarding will get worse if I don't deal with it now. I want to better enjoy my life.

Tink-
The best thing for you to do is to get into therapy. There can be a genetic component or there can be some learned behaviors, but typically there are some cognitive issues that result in hoarding behaviors. By seeking out a specialized therapist, you can be evaluated for comorbid disorders and get to the root cause of your saving, hoarding and acquiring. The earlier you seek treatment, the better off you will be. You can recover from hoarding. You need to learn how to self-correct the thought mistakes you may be making, and learn to overcome your fears.
Let us know how you are doing from time to time.
Best regards-
Nicole
