I am desperately looking for help with the clean-up of my apartment in Washington,DC. I suffer from depression and other issues involving family and job and have let me apartment go. I do not know if I would be considered a hoarder per se (I don't go out and buy a lot of stuff and let it accumulate), but I have let my apartment go, and it is know very messy and dirty. Of course, I am embarassed and upset with the situation, but now if I don't improve things in the next few weeks, my landlord will start eviction proceedings. I have called some companies, and most are extremely expensive. I really need help as I have tried to deal with this on my own and haven't been able to make progress, but I cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars.I have called DC government and nonprofits, but haven't found any solution. I would appreciate any advice and referrals you can offer. Thank you.

Sorry Lola, perhaps you can try some church groups or even a local boy scout troup, but the liability might keep the boy scouts out. There just are not a lot of options out there. The last poster was correct, it is hard work and is not very appealing to most people. There are also risks involved in many of the homes we clean. If you can't find any resources, it is time to just pull up your sleeves and start working at it yourself. You can do it in a couple of weeks if you just start filling trash bags now. I think you will be amazed at how much progress you can make. The only other option is to be evicted, so let that help be your motivation as it might just be your only chance.

Do you know why you can't find inexpensive cleanup help? because it is HARD WORK cleaning up all this hoarding crap!!! You can't expect someone to do it for little to nothing.
