Hi,

I am way deep entrenched in anxiety right now. After a major leak behind our sink counter (which turned out to only be a refrigerator coil) the family friend plumber (and all around handyman) noticed a number of other issues with the house that we were aware of - tree vines growing into the roof (we live in a sub-tropical region on a canal and are surrounded by a lot of palms trees and strangler vines), a roach infestation that has grown out of control, a semi-hoarding situation, and a bathroom in the main bedroom that has been taped off for almost two years because I'm terrified of the palmetto bugs that kept coming out of it incessantly.

The landlord wants everything done to the house now and has wheeled in a dumpster. Wants yardwork done, the place emptied and cleaned, etc. And the plumber is saying that the main bathroom likely has a horror movie scene behind it, and the place needs to be tented before he begins painting the inside (the landlord wants it done).

I am beside myself and don't now what to expect at this point. I have OCD and have read horror stories about fumigants and people suffering long-term damages as a result of them. Really need someone some info here if anyone's dealt with tenting before.

hi Lynne,

I have not had tenting done before, but have friends who did it because of bed bugs. They went to a hotel for I am not sure how many days after, and then moved back in, and everything was fine. They had four younger children at the time, and all of them are adults now and perfectly healthy. Their dog also was fine and not affected by it.

Sometimes, we have to take a little chance in order to have a better life. I know it is terribly hard. I had a hoarding husband with a mouse infestation in his space. I had to take care of it. I know it causes anxiety to have people in your space and people forcing you to do things. But take a breath, you will be so much happier and healthier without the palmetto bugs and roaches! I think it is unhealthier to live with roaches than to go through one fumigation. You will be better off, afterwards.

Please stick around and share as much as you like. Most of the posts are over on the Daily Chat, so we would love to hear more about you there.

I am curious what happened with this? Did it ever get resolved?
