Good morning, all.
Dave has a good suggestion on the techie thread. I have been wondering myself if we shouldn't archive at least the first 15 pages of "What are you doing today?" This thread takes forever to load and sometimes gets stuck.
Last night's support group went really late. I woke up this morning at 8 with the dogs barking at me to PLEASE let them out! That is late for me. My body and brain are not yet back on Eastern time.
Tom called. The weather is cool and clear so they are coming to install my new gutters and gutter covers. I am so glad they are going to get them on before helicopter (maple seed) season hits in full force.
I will catch up on laundry and clean the kitchen while they are here.
Frank Kitty is going to freak out. When the roofers came a year ago, he disappeared for 3 days. I thought he had gotten ouside somehow, but he was just in hiding.
I want to go to the green house either this afternoon or tomorrow. We have surely had the last hard freeze. I want to get the salsa/salad garden in before it rains on Wednesday. A plant list of types and numbers of plants will help keep me from over buying. I bought more plants last year than I had room for or time to plant and several died. Yes, I can be a "plant hoarder" too! The beautiful new colors of flowers just call to me and I want to take them all home!

I've repeatedly had trouble posting (as you can tell) the past couple of days, even when it has seemed I was trying to do things "lightning fast." I'm going to try a variant of Karl's technique in the Techie Stuff and see if that works. If you see this post, you'll know it did work. Then I'll try to explain in the Techie section what I did, although I probably won't explain it as well as Karl does.

Dianne, your place at the beach sounds so lovely. I like your idea of hiring people to do just the parts we feel "ready" to allow them to work on. I've thought about that same sort of thing the last few days. In some cases, it wouldn't have to be a professional . . . just someone who isn't going to make judgmental comments when they come in to help. For example, I have a bookcase that is not only really, really dusty but that also needs to be tidied up and organized. The dusting is the biggest thing it needs. I could let a trusted someone do that small task, and it would be one less thing for me to do. I have a bigger area that I also think I could turn over to someone. I need to dump my all-or-nothing thinking on this matter.

And, no, Dianne, unfortunately I'm not planning to buy a Steri-Clean franchise. (Don't have what it takes to do that. Would be nice if I did, but . . . .) Tried to post about it yesterday but couldn't, but I did talk about it at chat last night. What I did do was go to that expo and over to the Steri-Clean booth. I had previously emailed Cory Chalmers to see if just a "plain-Jane" hoarder could attend the function, and he had emailed back, "Sure!" (That's an abbreviated version.) It was great to get to talk with him, to be able to say "Thanks" face to face. It was a two-day expo and I was only there for part of the first day. I don't know how the rest of the expo weekend turned out for them, but I do very much hope he was or will soon be able to make connections with "the right" people in Texas, people who can and will start a great Steri-Clean franchise in this state.

More later. I'll see if this post "takes" or not.

Hi, all!

Even with trying to cut and paste long posts (in order to get the posting done quickly), I kept having trouble yesterday posting. So maybe I'll do several kind-of-short posts today.

Diane, it's nice that you made some progress on that bedroom, even if you didn't work as long as you wanted. I hear you about the "will do anything that doesn't require decisions" comment. I find that decision-making has affected me in many areas of my life, not just in the realm of clutter. (I'm glad that decision-making is addressed in the Buried in Treasures book.) I know that in my case, I over-analyze just about everything in my life. A life slogan that is good for me is to "keep it simple." (That's in theory, though. I started trying to apply that idea to my clutter at one point, and I found I could make even that idea complicated. You know, like "What is the best way to keep this thing simple?" Arrgh!) : )

Later!

Diane, if you ever come out east it's yours as long as you'd like. I thought of you today as I enjoyed the ocean breezes and colorful kites and sent blessings your way. Get to the lake soon!

Tillie, my next door neighbor's house burned to the ground as they were preparing for a Christmas party when all our kids were little. Party goers were arriving so the street was blocked and the fire truck mixed things up and didn't get the water truck here in time. We're country and all is well and septic. The only death was their kitty. I never allowed any fire in my home after that. I can only imagine how devastating it is when human lives are lost.

The drive home took 5 hours tonight. A tractor trailer caught fire on the eastbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. No injuries but that side of the bridge had been closed for 5 hours by the time I got to the crossing. There were massive delays as east and west bound traffic had to share the west bound span.

The drive gave me lots of thinking time.

I got the beach place done with cleaning so I went out and bought new furniture for the balcony, new throw pillows for the sofa, new bedspreads and decorative pillows to go with the new blankets. The renters will be happy with the new cookware and I changed up some pictures.

Then I sat on the balcony, 6th floor level, open to the sky and just enjoyed it. There was a young boy doing cartwheels at the edge of the water. Although we are on the ocean we can also look across the Delaware Bay and on a clear day like today can see Cape May NJ. The kite shop two doors down had their big, colorful kites staked into the sand flying high. All sorts of creatures. The boardwalk was packed with families, kids and dogs.

As I did a final check on everything I thought this place is perfect. It's big enough to enjoy, small enough to have total control of. It has everything for family, friends and renters that they could need and nothing that doesn't serve a purpose. It's fresh, clean, bright and pretty and totally uplifting.

So on the long drive home I thought it's time to take more drastic measures in my house. I'm spending so much time maintaining what's already been done, the dejunking of the hoard is very slow going. I decided to look into some professional help. I don't want to spend a fortune and I don't think I'm up for the whole house at once. But I could start with the formal rooms (living room, dining room, library) and the rest of the family room that we haven't done. If it isn't too traumatic bedrooms could follow later in the summer.

I want the wonderful feelings I have at the beach to be part of my everyday like. And mentally I think I'm ready.

Couldn't find the timer so thought I didn't have to work on bedroom, oh, that is what regular clocks are for. I aimed to do 5 mins, turned out 3 sessions of 15 minutes. Bed is still full of stuff. Often I did laundry, sorted stuff on bed, forgot about it, then when time for bed, carefully piled it all at end of bed, after several times, have another mountain of clean clothes. Sorted it all, and must face it before I go to bed tonight
did dishes, pulled weeds and excess grass in flowers, played with dogs, cleaned counters, just stuff. but not the most impt, the bedroom
I spent at least an hour peeling paint off deck, so will do anything that does not require decisions, rather than cleaning bedroom. Think I should buy a pressure washer for cleaning deck

I addressed the time limit and disappearing posts issue in the "Techie stuff" thread, where it should be easier to find if someone needs a memory jog in a week or so. To my amusement, the post disappeared when I sent it -- but it was the just the usual delayed behavior; after a short pause and a page refresh, it was right where it was supposed to be.

Speaking as a computer geek, my guess is that there's a race condition with the server trying to satisfy "update the thread with new text" and "display the current contents of the thread" at the same time. The chat room glitch where two people speaking at the same time can cause one or both messages to be replicated is probably also an issue with incorrect synchronization.

Last week I heard all the sirens and was later told that there was a house fire near by.
Yesterday on the way to the grocery store we had to pass by the house.
It is completely gutted by the fire.
Very terrifying to see how the fire raged very quickly through there.
Yellow police tape surrounding the property.

The two women were able to run out safely but the man was trapped inside upstairs and later rescued by a neighbor who was driving past and saw the fire.
The man later died in the hospital from severe burns.
The authorities are still investigating.

This house was not filled with excess stuff.
No hoard or stash of newspapers, magazines, books, clothes, etcetera.
All hallways, doorways and access to windows were all clear and easily accessable.

Did they have smoke detectors with working batteries? I do not know.

This happened during daylight hours. Were they asleep?
Did the women see the fire and try to put it out by themselves rather than evacuating everyone from the house and calling the fire department?

This whole tragedy has been weighing heavy on my soul.

Do you have a plan?
Do you have working smoke detectors?
Do you have more than one way to escape from every room?
Are the hallways and pathways to all doors and windows clear of items?
Are your porches clear?
Is there stuff too close to any heat source? Like the water heater, furnace, stove?
Are all combustible products like paint, paint thinner, nail polish remover and such all stored properly?
Have you thought it through as to what you would do?
Do you have a plan?

Losing a house, a home and all your possessions is something we can all recover from.
Losing a life this way, there are no words to describe the emotions.

good morning, raining here so 8 muddy dog feet to clean
I feel a little better this morning, plan to make a to do list. Past few days, wandered around not knowing what to do, then last night realized in my fog, did not make to do list and really need list to give me direction when don't know what to do.
Thing that bugs me the most is the excess pile of clothes in my bedroom now that I found all summer clothes that were lost for 3 years.
I washed and hung all the dresses to get wrinkles out, so they are ready for closet, no room in closet , so they are hanging on door of closet and door to bedroom, then there are many things at end of bed that need a home or garbage. So my bedroom is on to do list today. First try will be only 5 minutes, then will see if I can move up to 10 minutes on timer. Yep, difficult to deal with clothes. I thought I had it handled after went through closet and organized it, then the found clothes appeared. Makes me very aware nothing I could find at the thrift store would my life better. I have more than enough clothes. So goal today, timed events in my bedroom. Black garbage bag for donations, at least 5 items, 20 would be better. I could try the fill the bag, place in trunk for 1 week to see if I miss anything, then donate. Thanks for your kindness this week. I learned so much from you, like the to do list, timed sessions and black garbage bag for donations so I can't see the valuables that are in bag.

Roxie, sorry I didn't connect with you in chat. Another time. I'm concerned about your test and praying for you.

LR, are you thinking of opening a Steri-Clean franchise?!!! That would be so exciting!!

Yesterday I ended up working outside all day and skipped the closet. In addition to cleaning the dog houses and bedding I got some unexpected work done. The pool guys came to open the pool. Since they were here for a long time I asked for help in moving 8 heavy gravestone markers. I was able to work in the grave areas and get all the winter debris cleared. Then the guys moved the stones back. Although there are more than 20 graves in two areas it was starting to look pretty creepy so I kept the markers generic (no names, dates) and limited. Now the areas have a more peaceful feel.

Today I scrapped plans for around here. I'm going to the beach for the day and see if I can finish up there. The only work left is the kitchen. There are some staples I can pack up and take to the local soup kitchen. One of the renters last year put on the comments page it would be nice to have new pots and pans. Another wanted new blankets. So I bought the stuff they wanted and will take the old items to the thrift store. Some cleaning and it will be done. It's a wonderful reminder for me that I am capable of keeping a place clean, organized and can release the old.
Of course I'm not attached to those things. It's harder here.

Hope everyone has a day filled with whatever they would like.

Oh, my goodness, it's raining comments here. lol Billie. I believe she's got it.

Diane, sorry about the spider bite, but usually they're more of an annoyance than anything. One summer at my cabin one bit me near my eye and my eye ended up looking like a boxing ring reject's eye. 🙂

I loaded up the dishwasher and ran it, then hand washed the recycle plastic, and wiped down counters. I put away all the non-perishables. Looks like I will need another pet food run, soon. Bah.

I've discovered lots of medical lectures on youtube, which actual medical students use to help them before exams. Explains a lot (sometimes too much for me) about whatever topic they are covering. Very cool.

Will try short version of previous lost post.
Billie your reposts made me smile, thanks
Wonderful you got so much done
LR fun reading your progress
So happy to read your report Tillie, sounds like you had a good day except cat/bird situation.
I did dishes first thing this morning, I think before 6am, dog usually gets up at 4am, can you believe it? His mom gets up that early to workout. Yes, not enough sleep again .
Kept dogs separate after one tore down part of fence and I put it back and reinforced, working great now. Just got a spider bite on my back while in yard finishing fence in a bush, thought of you spider savers as I swatted whatever bit my back. very little accomplished today. Need to get out of here, so will take remaining dog to lake one day next week when weather is good. will rain beginning of week.
I am just hanging in here today, knowing I will feel better soon.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Barb, so glad you're back! Hope your trip was terrific!

Tillie: Glad you got the new wasp trap!

Billie, glad you got so much done on your fridge. (I need to do the same to mine.) I got a good belly-laugh out of your "cut and paste monster" comment. I didn't know what you meant by it until I scrolled down. Too funny. At least you just copied and pasted your own comments. You didn't do what I did a few weeks ago, where I'd copied and pasted not just my comments, but everyone else's recent ones as well!

Diane, glad you're feeling better! I had that problem with a post a few weeks ago.

Me: Well, now I get to tell what I did today (see post from this morning). If you check out the following link today or tomorrow, you'll have a hint about my day. http://crimescenecleanupfranchise.com/

I'll tell you more later. : )

My evening goals are to eat supper, scan and toss some brochures I picked up today, and then spend time visiting on the phone with a friend.

Hugs to all.

Went grocery shopping.
Dropped off a small bag of donations at the thrift shop.
Put away all the groceries.
Had a big fight with Marty (the cat).
Some Sparrows have nested on a beam under the carport roof.
I have been watching the babies and the babies have been watching me.
So sweet when they peek over the edge.
Marty climbed way up on all the hoarded clutter out there, got only three feet away and was thinking about how to get up even higher.
I used a long stick to poke Marty down from there.
Marty cried and cried, I felt very bad, still do.
Gave Marty lots of hugs and some cat snacks.
He hasn't climbed back up there again, yet.
The wind is back and there is high cloud cover but it is 79 degrees.
Oh Yeah! almost forgot...
at the thrift shop there was a new, still in the box wasp trap. I bought it for one dollar and will put it outside soon as I finish here. 😀

I just wrote a long post, put the code in box at bottom, sent and it did not post. Usually my message will turn blue when I am not looking and disappears, this is the first time it just did not send in months.
I am doing better today than yesterday, not enough sleep again but feel like life is worth living today.

Hello to everyone....
I did not get very far with washing the dishes last night...I fell asleep..and I was not really all that surprised about it. So this morning I plunged right in to getting those dishes washed.
Then wiped down the stove, front of refrigerator and microwave. It took me between one and a half to two hours, with little breaks in between here and there. Was feeling kind of not quite alright, so I took my 1/2 mg of Alprazolam and continued on. And wiped down the counters.

Then I could not stand it any longer..my refrigerator has needed a good going through and thorough cleaning and I knew I had a lot of stuff in there that needed to be thrown out and has been so frustrating trying to find something that I wanted to use and then when I did.. it was not usuable anymore. I was buying more of an item that I thought I was out of, since I had everything stacked out of place in there because the produce bins needed to be cleaned out....so I would go buy more, then later on find the lost item.:(
I removed all items from refrigerator(except for the stuff on the door), washed all the glass shelves and produce bins. Put all spoiled items out in my composter.....Took me a break and spent some time on the computer..and fell asleep!
Guess my little "chill pill" was really workin' eh
Well, when I woke up I remembered that I had to get the library books turned back in today.

So..after I get off of here, I will wipe down the inside walls of the fridge, replace shelves and bins and then return all the good stuff back in their proper "homes" 🙂
That's all for now my friends..and have a peaceful evening....

That's all for now my friends..and have a peaceful evening....

I have been planning to ask Cory if he can get a computer geek to look into fixing the dissapearing post problem just as soon as Cory has a minute free.
He has been doing so many things these last several months and barely has any time to spare.

I have found that if I take time to write a post, the post will vanish when I try to post it.

I have learned to always copy my posts before attempting to post them so I can then paste them whenever this happens.

To copy/paste...
place the cursor at the begining of the post
hold down the "left" click button while you drag the cursor along over the post, this will "highlight" the text in blue
while the text is still highlighted in blue press down on control "ctrl" and "c" at the same time
the text is now "copied"
Bring up a "fresh/new" add reply box
type in your name at the top
Place the cursor in the message box
press down on control "ctrl" and "v" at the same time
your post should appear whole & intact in the massage box
then do the capcha/number letter puzzle thingie
your post should now post properly

Is there a time limit on composing a message on here, for the post to be accepted?

Such a beautiful morning here! I hope all of you have lovely, energizing weather as well.

Today will be more outdoor work; take apart and clean 5 doghouses. Put fresh padding in all. Set clean bedding on deck. The oldsters look so sweet when they nap in the sun using the bolster edges as pillows.

Inside will be a swipe at a foyer closet. The winter things that come out will be set aside for the storage unit. In the early fall I'll take them for donation. I could wait for the early fall and take the stuff straight to the Salvation Army but it always feels better to clean an area that no one else can mess up, I can open that closet door and say, ah it's still clean.

Plus the mice have probably moved back outside by now and their cozy little baskets of scarf and mitten homes can be cleaned well.

Good morning, roomies. Coffee tastes good, the birds are chirping and the sun is arising. It is a good day to be alive.

((((Peeps)))) Everyone needs a hug. Tillie, you get a cyberhug even if you don't want to be touched. If I met you in person I'd want to hug you and I'd hope you could tolerate it for a moment. ("Resistance is futile" I used to tell my hug-aversive friend (whom I believe really came to like it)).

Tillie, thanks to you, my spider relocation mission is a success! I used a glass and piece of card, he and I went out across the driveway to overgrown shrubs, and he walked away (I'm sure singing "Born Free"). 🙂 Felt very good.

From the pictures he looked most like a giant house spider, but I guess could have been a male black widow. His leg span was around 2" I'm guessing, so I don't know.

One day my brother and I were sitting on my patio and I saw on my driveway, to my huge surprise, a tarantula. I didn't even know we had them here. Well, I kind of like those critters, so I scooped him up on a piece of paper and deposited him into those same bushes.

Diane, you did not do anything wrong or screw anything up. Contact another dentist and just say you have a bad tooth that is giving you pain. Take care of it. ((Diane))

Had a very bad night last night, physically. Not ready to talk about it yet.

Dianne, I didn't see your offer to chat online until now. Let's see how the weekend goes, okay? Or I'll just drop by the chatroom now and then to see if anyone is there.

Kisses to the boo boos.

Oops. Karl, that was supposed to say, "Glad your window issue is past tense now." (Sounded painful.)

Hope your puzzle thing goes well!

Good morning to all.

As has so often been the case lately, I want to make so many comments, but I'm going to try to watch things for time's sake and do it little by little. For now, I want to say "Ouch!" (That's to Karl. You're your window thing is past tense at this point. ) And to all our other beloved injured, stung, ill, and/or in-pain friends on here . . . lots of hugs.

Tillie, I hear you about the bugs in the vehicles issue. One thing that slows down dealing with our many, ahem, "inherited" vehicles here is that some have become home to bees. (And there are definitely wasps here and there to be dealt with, too. Wasp stings are no fun. Again, ouch! )

Dianne, you brought out a number of good points . . . a lot to chew on.

I finally did get my goals done last night and even got to sleep fairly early. It ended up being one of those good examples (to myself) of times when things don't take nearly as long as expected once I start on them.

I have a very different, fun set of goals for today, and they are very related to my clutter issues and even to this board. And I will leave you in suspense about them until the evening or perhaps until tomorrow morning. (Yes, I'm sure everyone here is just living and breathing to see my posted goals for each day. Ha.) If my goals for today don't pan out for some reason, I will be disappointed . . . but I'll live over it. Tune in later.

Happy day to all. Hugs.

While trying to close a window on Tuesday, I slammed it against my finger. That seems like nothing, now.

It's been a busy week; although I've accomplished various things since the ceiling thing, I don't think any of them have been related to improving my clutter situation. Maybe I'll report on them anyway, when I'm not quite so tired.

Saturday morning is the annual US Puzzle Competition. I've participated before, but I always score considerably lower than I think I'm capable of. I'll try to get a good night's sleep at a hearty breakfast before it starts, at least.
