Background: I'm and only child, so was my dad. My parents died when I was 19(dad) and 30(mom). All grandparents died by the time I was 18. I was so so close to my Dad, and to my mom's parents. Family is important to me. I have kids.

So I didn't get much at all when my parents died (long story, vulture-type people got most of it) but what I do have I treasure. I absolutely cannot BEAR to throw out any of the family heirlooms, becuase, you know, they were my grandma's or whatever and it is my only link to them.

I did the thing one time where you take photos of an item and then donate it but what is left, I don't know that I can do that.

What I have:
about 10 statues/sculptures my mother painted (I treasure these)
some drinking glasses with birds on them that were my Dad's
a lot of things my Dad brought home from Korea and Viet Nam and Japan (wooden elephants, wooden bowls, wooden framed black velvet paintings)
my dad's army badges, papers, photos
some fancy glass dishes, candy dishes, etc that were my grandma's
a crystal salad bowl set (one large four small)
a huge painted black velvet wall hanging
a shamrock teacup my aunt brought me from Ireland (where our family is from)
my grandpa's wooden cane
a glass and metal jar/music box that was my mother's
statues of horses that were my dad's (one is broken, I want to fix it)
a very old case of records that were my grandparents in the 1930s
my dad's stamp collection which he gave me when I was a child
some crystal salad dressing/oil bottles

I think that's about it. It doesn't sound like much but since it is a lot of fragile stuff it is taking up a whole room of shelf space downstairs. I don't have a case or shelves to display any of this in my main living area.
