Hi Mike :)
So sorry this is happening to you.
Can you afford to hire a company to help you?
At the top of this page is a link to "national resources".
Click on that link then click on your state to find a company near you.
Companies that do this kind of clean out won't rat you out unless there are children or aged persons in danger.
Ask them for an estimate.
You could tell any nosy busy-bodies that you are doing some renovating.
Good luck and best wishes.

My house is filled with trash and unfit for living. I was away from my house, and a water pipe busted. My basement is now flooded under 5 feet of water. It's a pretty big basement, so we're talking tens of thousands of gallons of water. I know that the right thing to do is to tell the city and have them fix the problem. But then they have to come into my house...I've been thinking about the consequences. I don't think I'm being overly dramatic here. The police are going to come out. This is going to be on the news. Everyone I know is going to know about this. I'm not going to be able to show my face in public again. It's going to also hurt my family. I'm going to have a hard time getting employment. An employer will just google my name, and find out what happened. I just don't know how to get rid of this water discretely. I have a fairly large backyard, and am near a sewer, so it may be possible to get rid of the water in a few visits. Unfortunately I lost my homeowners insurance a couple of years ago.
