There's a relevant Meetup group about 10 miles outside Memphis TN: http://www.meetup.com/hoarders/

I've really enjoyed other Meetup groups I've been a part of. They've been really good at making things happen in person, not just online.

There doesn't seem to be a hoarding/clutter Meetup group in upstate NY, but maybe you might find a local grief support group helpful in terms of holding on to "stuff". They are often available at community centers, churches, etc.

I wish you both the best of luck! (I'm not in the vicinity of either of you, but I too am trying to tackle all my junk. I know we can do it!)

Hi Ame- I wish I lived closer, because that sounds like a great idea. I'm in upstate NY, and having trouble getting rid of my parents' things (they both passed away in the last 3 yrs)

I would love to meet up with others in the West TN area willing to get together as a group and help each other.
I've found it to be so much easier to have others with the same issues help each other, take turns with each other's homes.
I need a couple or few "buddies" willing to come to my home, laugh with me over "why the heck do you still have THAT!?" Be willing to say: "Girl, that is the ugliest dress/blouse/sweater, etc. I have ever seen! That thing needs to go!" Of course I am willing to do the same. I really need someone to tell me it is okay to take my late-husband's college text books from the attic (talking about 80's era text books here) and toss em into a dumptster or haul them to a recycling center.
I used to have a small group but they have moved away over the years.
It is so much better to have supporters willing to laugh with you than to try to do it by yourself, end up overwhelmed and crying, then giving up.
