My husband has inherited a lot of hoarding tendencies from his parents, and for most of the years of our marriage I have been an enabler. We are now in what will likely be our retirement home. I am faced with two storage units and two attics crammed full of what I call "mish-mash boxes", which are large moving boxes and Rubbermaid tubs full off mixed papers, books, wires, keepsakes, broken electronics, hardware, etc. My best estimate is that we have about 40-50 of these boxes. My husband is too overwhelmed by them to touch them. I am afraid to pitch them, because when I have gone through some in the past, they have contained things like passports, birth certificates, grandfather's watch, etc., even though 90% of the stuff is just trash. It has taken me entire days to get through just one box. Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can get through all of this more quickly? Right now I feel like I'll die before it gets done.
