Sorry you are stuck and overwhelmed Messyme.
Try making a short list with only the necessary steps needed to complete a task in the next hour or two.
Example, kitchen...
Clear counter
get dishes soaking
wipe off stove
sweep floor

When we make those long To-Do lists it seems like we haven't done anything and there is still so much left to do.
Shorter lists allow us to cross off more sooner and that helps to keep us encouraged and focused.

Good luck

Its not physical or mental I don't think. I have some stuff bagged up but I still have a lot to do I look at it and just feel defeated before I really get started. I need to do the kitchen that's the worst. I try making a list so I can check things off as I go and that way I don't get distracted but the list gets really long. I really just feel like throwing everything away but that is a lot of work too. I just keep getting stuck. I'm going to bring home some boxes after work and hopefully I will go into panic mode and get it done.

MessyMe,
Tell us where you are at, what is left to do and what your struggling is all about. Is it physical, mental, both? The only thing you can do at this point, in the 2 days you have remaining is to get as much done as you can. If you need help, do you have resources in the form of friends or family that can help you? Talk to us and lets see if we can't get you moving again.

Hi Messyme :)

A great way to get dishes under control is to only have a few of each. Then you will have to wash them regularly.
Four plates, four bowls, four cups, four forks, spoons, knives.
So go ahead and toss all the rest.
Same principal applies to clothes.
Sit down and figure out how many of something you need.
Four pair of slacks, four skirts, twenty blouses, six dresses or whatever your actual needs are.
Then toss all the rest.

BIG WTG! on the stuff you bagged already! :D

But you are going to have to resign yourself to making those trips to the dumpster unless you can find a kid who will do this for a little cash.

Keep up the great job of bagging! :D

Hi thanks. I hate dishes so I've really let them build up to the point where I think I should just throw everything awsy . And I have way to many clothes and instead of putting them away I end up leaving them on the floor so mountain of clothes around. Then I try and go through them to get rid of stuff but ends up being a bigger mess and I give up. My garbage is also kinda far away so I get really lazy about taking it down. I'm not one of the people that doesn't want to throw anything away I do throw it away I just hate taking it down. I just have too much stuff. I usually move every year but have stayed in my current place for 4 years so I've accumulated stuff I don't really need. But again never make the time to get rid of things. My mom said she'd help me sometime but she is really judgemental so I never hear then end of things. She doesn't understand why I just don't do things right away. I don't really understand why I don't just do things right away . I couldn't sleep last night so got up and bagged up about 10 bags of crap just need to take it down but still need to do the kitchen and bathrooms.

Messyme,
I agree with Tillie, you just have to start moving. In the long run this is something great, as you will have a much nicer place and at no cost to you. This could be the fresh start you always wanted.
Don't get hung up on decisions, you need it or you don't. Don't get lost in memories and get side tracked. Stay focused as you have one goal, to get it cleaned. There is only one way to de-clutter...let go.
You have to decide what is important enough to keep, and what you need to let go of to get past this. You can't over think this. There is nothin to think about other than how much stuff needs to go to make your place safe, functional and able to have people come in without being embarrassed and scared. You can do it!!!1

Hi Messyme :)

The quickest way to get started decluttering is to grab a trash bag and start filling it.
Every bag of trash out of the home makes a big improvement.
Find the sink, scour it and fill it with dish water.
Get a load of dishes soaking in there.
If you have a dish washer get that loaded and running.
Gather up all dirty laundry into bags, baskets or boxes.
If you have a washer in your place get a load started.
If not then plan a trip to the laundry room for later. Take a magazine and rest while waiting.
Once you have your counters, tables and floors cleared enough fix up a bucket of scrub water,
something that smells nice, and start wiping down everything then wipe up the floor & vacuum the carpet.
Do these things and even if you have boxes of items lining your walls your home will look and smell better.
Since I can't see what you are dealing with there please tell me more about your situation.
You can do this! :D

Ok I have never really thought I was a hoarder just lazy. But now my place is so messy I'm overwhelmed. My apartments want to remodel and need to come in and measure for new sinks and counter tops but my place is really messy. I don't know where to start. Any advice? I'm laying here awake saying I'll do it in the morning but I can't fall asleep I'm so freaking out about it.
