As I acquired the following, I am thinking, " you need to get RID of stuff, not bring more home>>>vowed to discard an item or two for each acquisition (haven't yet discarded but need to asap and de-clutter cuz I can't even let the energy company in to evalualte (rescheduled for next wk)appt to eval which FREE upgrades and repairs I qualify for can be made to my place, which I need (now retired living on social security), cuz the 40 yr old very small place I just inherited has not only former deceased husband's belongings, but my own hoard, and I NEED to gt the place de-cluttered. Really need encouragement. If anyone here is in the San Diego area, maybe we could help each other declutter(I am able to be effective with someone else, but not able to be objective and stay focused without digressing on my own stuff)-If u live near San Diego, pls post...
But today I acquired instead of discarded --Neighbor had 2 boxes of items set out for charity pick up- I asked if I could have a few items
she said, "sure, I'll help u carry"
These items were either still new in sealed package or looked new, ever used or used minimally:
1. adjustable closet/shower rod
2.NEVER USED Breville Panini Press with instruction manual
3. Inflatable twin mattress New in sealed package
4. heavy stainless steel cabinet hinges

Good job ladies, I am so glad you are all here and posting.

I am not a real acquisitioner and I rarely leave the house but yesterday I went to the farm for family dinner and had a great time and was pretty much relaxed, got back late for the meeting but I thought it was at 9... it was still going on though for quite a while and it was wonderful.

1 - plate of food

Yesterday I bought a big package of cheesesticks, a quart of 1/2 and 1/2 and salad mix.

I mention the food because I tended - like to say in past tense, but...to buy too much, and like now i am trying to give away a lot since i am low carbing it, but seeing that some of the stuff i am trying to give away expired quite a while ago.

I also bought a fleece jacket at Costco and 4 pairs of tennies at Famous Footwear - buy one get one 1/2 off + 20% coupon, but it was tax free weekend for the clothing and shoes. They always have the buy 1 get 1 1/2 off + 20%, but the tax free is but once per year

Bugs are freebies and you can list them or not.;)

Went to WallyWorld this morning.
Bought some food for me and some for the cats.
Bought kitty litter.
Bought the 4th Pirates Of The Caribbean movie "On Stranger Tides" for Bluray. Been wanting this since it first came out. :D
Bought shelf liner for my freshly painted kitchen cabinets, already installed it.
Bought a 4 pack of Caress soap for 2.50 but had a 1.25 off coupon for it.
Bought St. Ives apricot scrub.

So many other things that I did NOT buy. :D
No cookies, candy, chips, sodas, baked goods, ice cream or prepared/packaged convenience foods.
It is hard to resist those things because they display them right there and price them cheaper than real food.
But I stuck to my list! :D

Kara I think for many of us, food is not an issue. It may be that some folks will want/need to indicate foods they bring is to hold themselves accountable. Also, if someone is a food hoarder, it would be a good idea, especially if they were working to purge and downsize the hoard.

Barb, good job!

I'm only going to list a little today because I am nowhere done for today, but:

2 dead lightbulbs

1 living beatle (not Beatle(I wish))(from the bathtub, released the poor chump outdoors)

a half garbage bag of paper (I'm sorting old old mail)

2 garbage bags full

Wow Tillie you got some lovely items I need to do more for myself like the oils and incense.

Yesterday I did laundry and brought an extra tea towel and washcloth into the house as I was very low (got them from my daughter). I put everything away yay.

This where is very helpful.

Yesterday I went to Target to look for specials on school supplies. I bought four packages of notebook paper and four boxes of pencils for The Salvation Army Tools for Schools supply give away next Saturday. They are on the front seat of my car to be dropped off tomorrow.
This is an improvement. Last year I bought $100 worth of supplies.
One of my problems is spending money on needy kids. I need to budget charitable giving along with my other expenses.
My other problem is bringing those things into the house to distribute later. They have a tendency to disappear into the clutter.

Kara,
It is OK to list food if people want to list food.
This thread is just a place where we can list what comes into our homes to help keep us from buying items we do not need and curbing impulse shopping.
We can also list things that we were very tempted to buy but didn't so that maybe we won't go back to the store and get them later.

Is it ok to buy food and drink?
I count it is as commodities.
It isn't like hair spray, because cheese is eaten. Hair spray isn't edible = canister. 1 bar of soap is ok to buy so long as it replaces one (not in additions to).

But what should we do to the ornaments, that we have so many off? Bad Girl :(

I guess I'll join in once in awhile. I won't include groceries cuz to me they don't count. Today I brought home:

Diatomaceous earth to deal with ants

Box cutter to deal with cardboard boxes (returning the faulty one I got yesterday

Cat food for cats (extra)

Frontline and Advantage flea TX for in and outside cats

New toilet plunger (old one -- looks like the handle got chewed up...ugh)

Tapeworm tablets for cats

Fly strips

Nutri-Cal high calorie cat supplement for skinny Boots the cat

Spent £50 on:
£20 on Bed and breakfast
£20 Bus tickets for 2 days (for scrapbook)
£15 food

oh and .....
£9 on 4 technical pens (I felt inspired to draw whilst in a book shop Sunday)

I think I am right in thinking only the pens count.

Saturday I bought
2 oars for boat (can return friends kayak paddles now)
1 blow up seat for blow up boat
1 pair capris that fit (donated ones that didn't)
10 approximately, craft items: elastic, heavy duty pinking shears, card of old shell buttons, 2 small pieces of leaf patterned fabric.
Felt bad about it then realize I really lucked out getting oars and seat, which I actually planned to buy for much more, so all in all, I can see in the future I can find things that I need. Perhaps that was why it was easier this morning to get rid of more stuff. I know for a fact, pain teaches me a new way to look at things, and let go of old behaviors and thoughts.

Saturday I purchased
canned cat food
cat snacks
assorted food for me
6 new never lit Salt City scented jar candles at a thrift shop for 2.00 each. Normally they sell for 20.00 each. I really like candles and I am happy these are mine now. ;)

I requested this thread because I am trying to stop myself from bringing too much in to house.

So I bought 2 dozen eggs, spring mix, kale, bacon jerky, raspberries, swiffer dust thingies, laundry detergent, and a dozen large bottles of iced tea w/o sugar.

The purchase I regret the most is the iced tea - but it was sugarless and they don't usually sell that and think it should be encouraged, but like a buck a bottle and takes up space.

Oh and I bought some mixed nuts and thing of pony tale holders. My neck gets so hot when I am home cause no a/c.

I was able to restrain myself from any electronics I want, shoes, clothes, one reason because my roof has sprung a leak - hope just the leak can be fixed and that i don't have to replace entire roof.

Last week I got a Hoover Floor-Mate floor cleaner from my Mom. (Love it!!)

On Friday DH bought a new printer to replace one that broke earlier in the week. In the process of installing new printer he also disconnected a printer that quit working years ago and was just gathering dust. 1 printer in, 2 printers out!!

In this thread we will keep an account of the things we buy or find for free that we bring into our homes.
This will help us to be accountable for our purchases and finds and also help show us a pattern to our shopping/acquiring habits. :)
