I needed gas, but had already taken the trash on Tuesday.

Took a deep breath and gathered up 14 little open plastic containers of lotions and shampoos and conditioners that I had decided to use up and empty and wash and recycle. But I don't like them. All went in the trash. Very small volume, but that was hard, so I'm giving myself the full 14. Even though technically they were consumables. Because they had effectively become collectibles.

Went thrift shopping and added a net of five items that will stay here. I feel good about my choices though.

I stuck the two Halloween decorations I was ambivalent about in the bag to drop off today. I don't have room in my life for ambivalent items.

OUT!

Finally!

One bag of polished rocks I handed out at my class as part of my demo for pot burnishing, told everybody to keep them.

Going Wednesday:

55 skeins or partial skeins of yarn (plus random small balls I didn't count)

One loom.

Go Lila!

Yes, I will keep all the Halloween. I worked pretty hard on holiday decorations last year and I am trying to only keep/acquire ones that I will want to use for years and years. I did sort through when I put them out this year, and have two I am thinking about., but I think most of what I have will stay, with maybe just a few swap outs each year as some things that are not sentimental get old and worn.

Actually, I will have more, because I made more handprint ghosts with my grandsons, but they won't be fired until later and will go up next Halloween. And I will probably buy more lights next year. I love holidays and I love decorating my house. Especially in fall and winter when it is dark and hard to go outside.

After Halloween, will you keep all of the Halloween stuff in, SubC?

I cleaned out a cabinet and am counting the things I tossed that I intended to keep (not counting the old expired food but AM counting expired seasonings etc because I normally keep them all).

- pepper shaker
- flavored salt
- tajin

I am not doing all that well.

Two hats out.

13 items in to decorate for Halloween (besides Birdy's handprint - but almost half of them are battery operated tea lights). One old decoration out.

So I am net ten things in.

At this point, I am just wishing to be net zero at the end of the year! It seems unlikely.

Ok, Birdy's finished ghost handprint is an in.

I counted all the jeans in, but two are leaving. Plus three pet items, a toy I got out of storage and tried with bean yesterday that we decided was meh, and a fancy box.

Net -6

I had 4 out, then I brought home a shelf from school and last night when dd1 picked up her boys she brought me three pairs of the jeans I like from the thrift store, so I am now even again.

Just recording that to drop the mental tally.

We got last year's yearbooks at school yesterday.
Also, there were five small folding tables in the load I cleaned out of the storage closet. Two of them are still sitting in my garage in "decision land" - one will definitely go, but I have washed three of them and carried them into my house as temporary staging and sorting areas while I work on my basement project. I've decided I better count those in.

I took some things to the thrift store today when I went out to buy materials for the basement project. The materials don't count because they are going to be built in as part of the house. I've decided I am also not going to count the rugs, because they are basically part of the house.

However, I still have nine magnetic pouches I haven't decided about and I better count them in before I forget. I can count them out if they go. I added one new thing to the drop, so I am counting 8 more items in.

I am still buying things that are on sale and taking advantage of the tax holiday. Yesterday two bras and a book arrived. I think even if you are a minimalist -when you can get a comfortable bra in a style you like and wear regularly, delivered to your mailbox for 10.01 because they are discontinuing the color and you like the color - you buy two! I think it is a sign of progress that I did not buy ten.

Good evening!

I had fun thrifting with Dd today. They were having a "buy one get one for a penny" sale on almost everything we bought, and I got 25% off for being old, and it is a tax holiday. So our entire bill was less than $5.

I got together a bag to donate, and two books and a Christmas present (which doesn't count) came home with me, so net 23 items out!

I also got rid of three more pots.

I also got another book in the mail.

Items in + 118

I didn't make my goal of 100 pots out in the first six months, but I did ok. I'm going to try to do 125 in the second half to get to my annual goal. I usually have more sales in the fall, so it seems possible.

I will hopefully spend more time cleaning out the house in July.

Lila, I completely understand that.

Thank you for your thoughts. It is hard to keep admitting all the things I am buying/accepting, but I am. And how will I know where I am if I don't keep track? It's like my age and my weight. I tell people those perfectly casually (well, I only share my weight with people who can actually see me) and when people are shocked by that I say "what? I'm going to way the same/be the same age if I don't tell. You can see me."

You guys can't see my house, but I need to pretend that you can.

I added two books today. They are for Bean, but he is keeping them here.

Alright. Working in my room. 2 small items out (1 trash, 1 donate).

I am not as motivated since I am already well past my goal of 360 for the year, as silly as that sounds. So I am making a new goal of 500 items for this year.

SubC, but you are keeping at it, being accountable by posting here. It would be easy to stick your head in the sand and stop counting to avoid the uncomfortable feelings of not meeting your goals. But you keep on, and that is a positive step - awareness - that can lead to change.

I hope to have something to add to this Tally by the end of today. There is a trash can by my bed and an empty box for donations on my bed, so I am set for success. Now to get my mind and body in line.
