Trash Day

This week like all weeks Thursday is when the trash runs, but I'm not home when it comes at 7:30 am. So Wednesday is the day I purge all trash.

Most of the trash I generate on a week to basis comes from the kitchen. So I have a cleaning routine that focuses on the kitchen being thoroughly purged and then cleaned on Wednesdays. My scratch pads are rotated from cleaning glass dishes. Then a week later I snip a corner off to indicate it's no longer a dish washing pad. I use it to clean counters and the insides of appliances. A second snip of a corner . The pad is then used to scrub floors or toilets . And once that happens a third corner is snipped and I use it for scrubbing out trash cans. This keeps me from spending too much on pads and or not using them often enough.
My first use is in a glass tea jug on sunday by Wednesday after I've washed everything in the kitchen and everything in its place it moves to cleaning out the fridge or microwave.
counters then floors or toilets then cleans any mold growing in the trash bins.

So on Thursday I come home from work. my public trash container is empty. That is my opprotunity to clear areas of my house . I start with the yard. Especially things that keep me from mowing as quickly as possible.

then i remove everything from my car. So my kitchen, yard , and car are purged and cleaned once a week.

that rarely fills my garbage bin. So I then go to my hoard that i packed away in my basement now.i still try to eliminate l are objects for sale or to purge directly into the trash bin.

in this way i give my purge items more priority for trash bin than than actual bags of garbage.
The reason I do this is because I never make time or space for purging my hoard so the garbage always fills the bin and I never purge hoard items. As years go by the unnecessary items accumulate . Then I start to stacking and re stacking my hoard in unorganized ways. And it becomes an untamed hoard.

This week from my hoard i threw out old boots and shirts i haven't worn for 15 years and some old notebooks that i no longer need - but took pictures of the pages then tossed away. Some picture frames.
This week more purge items that I can no longer throw out the garbage bag.
So I just set the bag next to the bin. Andb im waiting for Thursday so that the garbage will be the first thing in.

So I rarely go more than a few days with bags outside the of the bin. .

this week I'm 100% back to all complete by Sunday at noon.
So now i have no stress or anxiety about having anyone come over. I been having friends come play cards so it's important to me that my hoard is locked away in basement.
no reason for anyone but me to go down there. The best way for me to do that is keep the large things out the basement. Over time it's become clear to me that my cleaning routine centers around trash day..

tip.
I drink alot 2 liter sodas.
After I finnish the soda. I wash it out . And fill it twice with tea. This keeps my costs down. But once the two liter becomes trash. I cut the top off not completely. But so I can re tape the cut .
next to my garbage bag in the kitchen I keep the cut open 2 liter jug. I fill it food wastes and other small items and stuff napkins till its full. I tape it shut and on my way to a gas station . I usually know before i leave if i need gasoline.
i take the 2 liter filled with trash to the gad station and toss in their trash recepticle.

Its not much but it adds up. I drink three two liters a week.
so the volume of the space the 2 liters containers displace equals 156 bottles 5 bins worth of space. Plus by keeping the edible garbage out of my bins and out of my house i have much less issues with mice and bugs. And where i do set out bait for them they are being fed from my food wastes. Diverting them from the bait in the traps.

I would like to be less dependant on the landfill and try to move towards turning my scraps into compost. But for now it's best that keep my rodent and bugs population at zero.
and also as im still purging than hoarding I don't want to deviate from whats working for me.

I got to a point where I stopped recycling .
only because I was keeping it and it was taking up living space.
i starting putting it out in see through bags so that rain wouldn't ruin it .
when i put a sign on it that says Free .
many times it would be gone before trash day.
I would put out to curb a few days early . Just to give a chance for so n eo b e to scavenge it from my curb.

I live out in the county and have chosen not to have any trash service.
So, I have burn barrels and a compost pile.
I feed the wildlife any food scraps.
The dump transfer station has bins set out for recyclables of all sorts except glass and cans.
Next to the dump transfer station is a metal recycling business and they pay you for any kinds of metal.
The rest of the trash is tossed at his work dumpster every few weeks.
Anything that can be donated is,
especially anything the local no-kill animal shelter can use.

Try looking at what your are putting in your trash.

I cancelled our trash service. This has made me very mindful about what I bring in because I have to think about where it is going to go when I am done with it.

I feed scraps to the cat (meat, which is rare and in small quantities) or chickens (chickens safely and happily eat food that has started to get moldy). I compost, I recycle (drop off location for glass, paper, cardboard, metal, and some plastics) and burn (dryer lint, badly broken wooden items, cardboard or waxed paper with food on it). I donate items that are still in good condition (or sometimes that need minor easy repair) and my goodwill takes unwearable clothing to bale and recycle the fabric.

Plastic bags and Other type 2 or 4 soft sheet plastic (case wrap for example) go to the grocery store to be recycled, and my "trash" goes into a plastic grocery bag or empty chip bag and gets thrown away in the grocery store parking lot or at the gas pump can.

"Trash" is mostly food packaging, so I don't feel bad about returning it yo the grocery store. I try to avoid as much as possible and they made money selling it to me.

I am a little annoyed at my friend right now because she broke her plastic bike rack while she was here and left it in my yard because she couldn't fit it inside the car with the rackless bikes. She said she would come back for it if she could get a replacement part and I said "you have to come back anyway, I have no way to get rid of it." But I don't think she will. She lives 4.5 hours away. I mean, I think she will come back, but it could be more than a year. And I think she will be upset if I still have her trash and say she has to take it.

My trash day is Tuesday also. I love our garbage man. He will take almost everything. Sometimes I see him sorting through old burned DVDs or electronics. Monday is my big throw out day.

I've made a huge amount of progress this past year, but it is sometimes embarrassing to see the amount of garbage I put out every week. Luckily, I have a huge basement and garage where I can go through my junk so the house is pretty cleaned out.

I don't recycle but need to figure out how to start. I used to keep and reuse all the glass jars and containers. Ugh, no more of that. I keep what I can use that week and toss the rest.

Like Tatoulia, I also use mostly cloth dish towels and napkins. I don't get sometimes why I have so much garbage. I am using up my food in my freezer, frig, and cupboard before I buy more.

I am also to the point where I just want to put everything on the curb. Even taking stuff to donate either doesn't happen or takes too long. We have people who will take a lot of the stuff from the curb so that is really nice. My big issue is books. I set a huge amount aside to get rid of. They were in my basement for a year. I ended up taking some back into the house. We sold some on eBay but the shipping was more and we actually LOST money. Now, they go on the curb.

This heavy trash and regular trash eve.

I'm moving and my last day at this address will be on the 24th. So I'll get one more day. Here.
There was so much stuff from the former tenant. That the new place has enough for two weeks.

Almost all my hoard has prepared well in advance of the move.

My kitchen is now closed.
It's the room that needs bins to move , but not bins to store , so I'll get my bins back after we put the kitchen in order at the new place. Well new to me . It a 100 year old house less than a mile from the center of downtown.

So I'm throwing out the entire contents of the fridge, even the freezer stuff.

My trash issue is there won't be enough space to throw everything away that needs to go.

So all of it goes to the new place. My spouse keeps say just throw it away, but doesn't realize I have to drive to a dumpster and hope I don't get caught. So it's easier and less time involved with just taking everthing to the new place.

At this point it should govern purged weeks ago.
But it's going to be a good move .

Talked to a neighbor on the corner. About when trash comes , and it was the ice breaker, she has a daughter the same age going to the same school in August.

My place would look hundreds times better.

Hi, all!
Its interesting that i can post in this thread, cuz my main issue now is trash, rather than stuff. Since i didnt get either truck, im going to only focus in cleaning & throwing out stuff. Everyday is trash day for me, since i dont have a collection service, and if i did have my own truck, its like having to toss out each thing 3 times: once from the house to the trash area, then into a truck, then out of the truck at the dump! Im going to arrange with my handyman to take it for me.
Yesterday i cleaned up all the bits of pieces all over the ground from my old worn out trampoline, that i plan to replace! It will be a fun new exercise in a beautiful new area! :D
You each sound like you are accomplishing a lot as well as doing other good things! YEA!!! ~♡~

Tuesday is my trash day.

I don't get to the day. sometime I try to put out two loads by waiting on the truck ,refilling and moving it to the alley where another row of trash containers are set out. today the guy got out and said he wouldn't do it anymore.

OK

it's hard to purge sometimes when you're ability to have it taken away is limited. I'll be good for awhile. with weekly trash. and I'll keep donating or selling stuff I purge.

since Tuesday is my anchor.

Monday sets things in motion.
I start in the kitchen , I clear the fridge of expired or rotting food . this sometimes spills. so I also mop. since Im doing all that in the kitchen. I stay in there and clean other weekly kitchen chores on my list . the small thing. but a gross thing is my scratch pads. I cut a common scratch pad Into 9 squares.
every Tuesday I take the one in the sink and replace it with a new one. I put the only one o. the floor and clean any stains with my foot on the scratch pad.

then use a grabber to toss it in the can

then Tuesday comes. after the truck leaves I have to drag/roll my can to the house. I pass my car. while it's empty. I clear out my car.
and now I have a small vacuum and get the sweeping done too.

usually while waiting for the truck , I cut my grass since I. already outside and stuff yard wastes into my or neighbors bins.

then I go take a bath

A good rule of thumb to follow
is that anything with mouse poop on it is to be thrown away and never donated or sold. ;)

Got two loads out today.
Purged a bunch of women's clothes.
It's just easier the to put it the bin sometimes.

It would be weird to donate it with mice turds on them . I have a mice issue. So I just tossed them in the trash.

Next week is heavy trash week . And I haven't decided what to take out out to the big truck.

Maybe just a huge box filled with useless clutter.

Good plan.
Just don't get a ticket for using someone else's dumpster.

Didn't get my second load out.

To avoid Unwanted attention. I'm taking the extra trash to a dumpster near by my work. I see the days the trucks come and go. So I'll just take the non foul bags and dump them , and put the foul bags in the dumpster for next week.

Tuesday is my my trash day.

This week I had enough for two bins worth.
So I had to wait for the first load to be dumped, then race to fill the second load in the bin and hurry to get I to the back alley. He picks it up as long as I don't do it very often.

While I was waiting for the truck to show up I start cutting the grass around the time he appears so that I won't miss the opportunity.

I do t have a truck , so the occasional second load is very helpful to keep the trash and junk from taking up space.

This week I gave my daughter a phone restriction.
She left her trash, dirty plates , and laundry undone. So it's a day with out her phone.
She's almost 14 . Thrash day is the one day a week where I'm insisting that everyone in the house . Get it all out .
Trash pick up day is the day that everything that is routine gets done.
Once the bin has been emptied after the truck leaves , as walk it back . I stop by my car and empty all trash, put all objects into an organizer.
Then as continue to walk it up to the house I put all yard derbis in the bin.
Without this routine I can weeks months or years without keeping things picked up.
My landlord is happy, my riders are happy, even my mother in law is happy.
My daughter not so much.

I finally cleared my home of a large hoard of clutter this year. Now is time for me keep it purged as much as possible till we move in a few months. It's been a good trash day.

Excellent topic, Pain!
I am very pleased to have bought a new plastic dumpster while i had that reantal truck!!! Last year bees made a hive in my old one, so i cant even open it now! I dont have trash pick up cuz im too far out in the country. I have to hire someone with a truck to take it. My handyman is a much more extreme hoarder than i have ever been, so as long as theres some good junk to be had, he is happy to take it!
The trash cans ive used for several decades are so beat up from the sun the javalina have been regularly ramming them, putting them in worse shape. Id hoped to get a second plastic dumpster(actually its called a storage bin), but the truck rental place wouldnt let me keep the truck long enough. I will rent another truck, tho.
Id had a 5 gallong bucket in the kitchen for compost, which i LOVE the feeling of adding food scraps to it, until the warm weather brought fruit flies to it, then i read it needs to be ventilated or turned...so now i dont know what to do...

Tuesday's are my trash day..so Monday's I'm busy getting as much as I can into the bin as possible.

I purge the fridge, and then empty all waste baskets. On Tuesday I go into the teenagers room.
If I have to take out her trash then she's grounded and may not use her phone.

If I have to take out anyone else's trash I get on to them enough to make it a verbal pain to listen to me go on and on.

Today I was approached by a neighbor . It's about the only time I talk to my neighbors. He said the TV he has out for heavy trash still works . But I plugged it in and it did not. I was going to go e it to a group home I know about . They break their TVs far too often.

I did fill my bin to capacity. I did put out as much on the curb as heavy trash will take. Two mattress and a used tire.

As I the truck leaves it make noise so it wakes me up. If I alot , I can refill the bin and take it to the other end of the property. It is in line with other bins on the adjacent street. So I can get two dumps In Ten minutes if I'm ready.

Other things I do on the Trash day.
I check and replace all mouse traps.
As I walk the rolling bin. Back to the house. I stop by my car. And I empty every thing in the car either into the trash bin or into a tub.
Then the routine is to put any extra trash bags that I can't get gone into the bin. So I can keep knitters from making a mess.

I also have a bin on the porch that I dump coupon in from the mail box. If I let any of it go in the house it acts like kryptonite . And now one has the energy to ever purge the coupons from where they lay. Plus I have an elderly neighbor that looks though my mail. With the excuse that she's looking for. Coupons, rather than be angry. I just put all the coupons in the little box under the mail box.

So my routine is stop by the car, then empty the coupons box, any extra bags .

Then I go inside and mop the kitchen and or bathroom where I keep the trash cans.
This for some reason the only time I ever sweep and mop the hard floors without carpet.

But after that. I walk my yard, pick up anything outside that could get in the lawnmowers way.
Just started doing that again today. As it's warm enough to cut grass.

So that's what I'm about to go do. Cut the grass the Trash day. And then call a day buy taking g a bath .

Tillie
I understand how frustrating that could be .
I used to help a friends dad by taking some of their trash away when I had truck . I would put in my neighbors bins . I charged him $5 dollars but it cost me nothing. If seems there's no pain for your fella to cancel the trash hauler. I wonder if any neighbors would be willing to help if he pays them the old rate.

On Thursday's is my laundry day. So I'm on the lookout for. Clothes that no-one wears anymore but won't through away. And I put by the back door in a hamper that is clearly makes. Trashy clothes.
Other wise they never ever through a sssssingle piece of it. I'm don't relate to hoarding clothes they will never ever wear. But may donate someday.
I just toss it in the trash bin unless I'm going to the donations. Center.

That's about it for me this week.

I wish I had two trash days . It would change my life.

My trash is picked up twice a week. I love the feeling of taking it out. Recycling is also picked up on the same days but there are bins so I can take it to the bin anytime. We don't have to sort it, we just put paper, glass, plastic etc all together in the bin.

I generate a lot of trash for one person. I'm not sure why. I use cloth napkins when I eat and I use dish towels, etc, so I'm not sure why I have so much trash and recycling each week.

Clothes and books go to donation center. I just started consigning a few items. Wish I had thought of that before the big cleanout. I have joined thredup.com to sell my better clothes and things I've bought with tags still on. We will see how that goes. My clothes may be too classic and not trendy enough.

This is a very sore subject for me.
We had trash pick up service for a while.
They would collect their one wheelie bin plus
two additional cans and
up to five bags, bundles or boxes
every week.
I loved this and was able to accomplish so much.
But...
one day they raised their rates so he cancelled the service.
Back to no road side trash pick up service.
He refuses to fill up his truck and make regular dump runs.
All that EVER leaves the property now is what I have in the kitchen trash can.
Every day I use a plastic grocery bag for kitchen trash, scoop litter boxes and take that one small bag out to the can.
That makes seven small bags a week.
He waits until there are 14 to 21 bags in the garbage can then takes them to work and disposes of them in the dumpster at work.
He also uses this opportunity to dig through the trash and remove things like pickle jars or last years phone book.
Fortunately I have a burn barrel and burn as much as I can.
I also have a compost heap to handle organic waste.
With the trash service I was able to get things under control and now the place has really gone down hill rapidly without it.
What I want now is a HUGE dumpster to clean up this mess.
I believe he cancelled the trash service because he wants all the trash to remain here
just in case he may need it some day. ?

From now until the end of time.
I would love to hear about your trash day.

No post too big or too small.

My trash day is Tuesday's
And my heavy trash day is the 3rd Tuesday of the month.

I took out a mattress for heavy trash. I put it off for 6 months. But now it's done.
