OK, thanks, any articles? I guess what may have made it worse is the brother spends a lot of his time growing smoking pot, has so since his youth. Well, I basically got told to leave, the brother must have been very angry and told the friend I had to stop the clean-up; the brother has a really bad look. He has said for weeks he would get the metal removed from the property, lots of refrigeration type metal hulks, so it isn't like these people are opposed to cleaning the property up, they just don't want to spend much money, I offered to do free dump runs, but they insist on getting a metals dumpster, though none of them are cheap once freon is involved.

Hi Krag :)

A person who hoards who is not ready to clean out will become quite hostile when their things have been touched or removed.
There is a book that explains better how to deal with such a person before you proceed.
"Digging Out" was written especially for those who have a hoarder in their lives and what to do, what not to do and what you can do to minimize dangers in the house.
Since the person is already irate it will be difficult to impossible to proceed with the clean out.
If they refuse counseling/therapy for their hoarding, cleaning out will probably never happen.
To continue with the work could cause severe emotional issues and will only cause them to collect more than they had before.
There could even be violence against you, the brother or a beloved family pet.
Sorry I have nothing but doom and gloom to say.
but I speak from experience. :(

I've been helping a friend in the Saybrook/Lyme area to de-clutter their house, do clearing on the property, prep/paint the house. I came to a stopping point on this as the owner got hostility from his brother. What would others recommend at this point? We removed a lot of interior squalid material, I believe a lot of progress was made.
