Too many clothes!

The way that I make it fun for me when decluttering my clothes...
I have a fashion show all alone by myself.
I put the item on and stand in front of a full length mirror.
Then I am brutally honest with myself, saying vicious and snarky things about the way it looks on me.
If the item does not inspire rude comments, it's a possible keeper.
;)

I call this "living on the frontier" or "living on the edge".

Your desk is so covered with papers you can only use the front 12" which is crowded with pencils and postit notes. You have to find a book off a pile to have a hard surface to write a check on.

You only have a 2' square opening on the kitchen counters which makes it very hard to fix or serve your food.

You get your clothes off the edge of the bed because you can't get in the dresser or closet.

It is frustrating, irritating and can cost you your job. It may not be too frustrating and irritating because I still have some issues.

....well, my barter-trade-worker is here to hook up my new washer & dryer, but all i can think is, 'What would i even do with MORE clean clothes when i have nowhere to even put my existing bags of clean clothes?!?' ......(sigh)...

With something I never wear...
I put it on
then I ask myself "why don't I ever wear this?"
"Just what about it don't I like?"

Some things I wonder if I could alter to make me like wearing them.
Then I ask myself if I would do the altering, this week, not sometime in the future.
Would it be worth the time and effort to alter them?

Most of the time I just let it go...

I have other things to wear that I do like. :)

....i still havent developed a plan....maybe just try on each thing in my closet & drawers & put it with an outfit, then be honest with myself if i WILL wear it....maybe make myself wear each thing..if i refuse, toss it.....unless of course it has extreme sentimental value....?!?

Thank you for the great suggestions!! At the moment I have bags of clothes ready to wash, I threw out a bag of clothes, and I have a bag to donate/sell.
Today will be spent cleaning out my drawers so the clean clothes will have a home. And the moving onto the new phase is a great idea! I've recently gotten back into fitness so I'll be getting rid of a bunch of clothes that just don't fit anymore. Thank you again and I will keep posting!! <3

.....i just had a flash of an idea that may help. Something that seems to help me move out of a phase, is moving into a new phase! My boyfriend and i are looking into taking ballroom dance lessons. If we do that, ill want to have clothes for that! Id be happy to make room for something that fun and exciting! ....im still waiting for the studio to call me back with the cost of lessons, tho...(fingers crossed) ha ha :D

ha ha ha Tillie, i love that last one, 'also, if they make me look stupid i toss them' ha ha ha That's actually awesome advice!!! Im veryhesitant to do my mid-stop idea...id rather just toss things im clear on...at this point i can barely access or find anything, so i may as well not even have any of it...

This is how I reduce the number of clothes I have.

I take 5 or 6 long sleeve white blouses (as an example)
line them up in the order of best/favorite to least liked.
Then I get rid of the lesser liked ones.
As I come across other long sleeve white blouses
I repeat the best to least liked process.
Eventually I will have their number down to where they will all fit in their assigned storage space.
Anything ripped, stained, never fit right, too worn out is tossed.

Figure out where items are to be stored.
Remove whatever is in this space that doesn't belong.

As you work through this process put the items in their home.
If the drawer, cupboard or closet becomes too full to access the items easily, we need to thin them out some more.

Figure out how many of something you need.
I know I do not need 100 pairs of socks even though I really like having lots of socks.
30 pair works just fine for me.

Another thing I focus on when sorting out my clothes is if they make me look stupid, they must be tossed.

Good luck and keep posting and asking questions. :D

I am also having to deal with throwing out clothes. I have all these bags of clean laundry that i cant put away cuz it wont fit in the drawers! Some of this stuff i am simply too old to wear now, and some of it is old and worn out. Im considering a mid-stop; meaning bag up stuff to keep for a certain time, say one year, and if i dont miss it, then toss it....as long as i trust myself to follow through...i do have room out in my storage buildings now...???
Would that work for you?

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! Cleaned a little today and there are just sooooooo many clothes. It's quite stressful and overwhelming at times but I think it went pretty well today. Does anyone have any tips on dealing with clothes? Thanks!!
