Al, may I recommend consulting with the social workers at the home where your mother is, and/or her doctors. Ask her what she wants. Run some ideas by her. A lot depends on how independently she can honestly live and what her own resources are, what she owns. Long-term care can be quite pricey but, depending upon where she lives (state, county) there may be many resources available to assist.

Finally got mom out of her house. She is 82. City red tagged her home. She has been in assisted care for 2 months. To our total amazement, she seems for the most part completely happy. Brought her some raison bread and snickers bars which she stashed in her pillow! So, obviously she is still hoarding. We have spent the last 2months getting the house back into shape. She can go back but obviously that would not be good! What should we do now? She is sharp as a tack. But obviously can not manage on her own affairs. What do we tell her at this point!
