On the surface, it seems like you mentioned 3 different areas that may need some level of attention.

The current home with living stuff for 5 people.

A workshop and items in process of repair.

Raw materials to build a new home on another site.

I don't have good answers about the phrase either at the moment. It's something I found in an old notebook of mine that I discarded over the weekend and it seemed like something worth thinking about for me.

I guess I am a little confused. The construction materials are not what is crowding the house are they?

I'm sorry that just confuses me. I guess I am too simple minded for that type of logic

Dave, like I said I'm new, I'm not quite sure how to respond but I'll try. Just about every area in my house is too cluttered. We've never had enough space. There are 5 of us living in a 1350 sq. ft house. One of the problems is is this is how I make a living also. I buy things, fix them, resell them. Another problem is that we took on way too much and got in over our head. We bought 2 acre property and were going to build a home on it. Collected, 90% of the materials needed and then the recession hit. Now we have all this stuff collected and it's going to waste. I have sold much of it but the scale is just overwhelming and I just can't get motivated to do anything about it.

Play for a minute.

If the statement, "every problem contains the seeds of it's own solution"
is a true statement:

What is a seed you can think of to help solve your own problem?

What's an area bothering you because it is too cluttered?
Or Something you think you should let go of and can't

Or if you have 5 collections of things, what is the one that is the lowest priority for you to retain?

How do you talk to yourself about utility of items when you don't have to space to arrange and use them?

Please feel free to ask me questions, I'm very open about this problem. I would like to say that I don't really collect garbage. I have no problem throwing away magazines, pizza boxes etc. We also do not live in squalor, but our home is very small and very cluttered but pretty clean otherwise.

Hi, I'm very new, I've read some of these entries and can relate to many of them. I've been a hoarder or "collector" all of my life. I hate throwing away something that could be useful. As a result I have a giant mess. There are many reasons I collect and understand why and how I have gotten to this point. I see a therapist for 4 years but wonder how much good he's doing me. He only tells me that I have been making great progress. I have sold or scrapped probably 1/2 of my "stuff" but when I look around it's still so overwhelming I have a hard time getting motivated.
