Great job Karl, taking care of the mess. I've been trying to do that too by keeping paper towels close at hand in every room where cats go. If somebody pukes a hairball or food we can get it right away instead of when we feel like it.
I don't have the enthusiasm this morning that was there last night. So that's something I need to overcome too. Strengthen the discipline muscles, not just do the hoard clean-up when I *feel* like it.
Oh Tillie, I so envy your honeysuckle!! I LOVE the scent and used to bring large vines in make the house smell sweet. The wild honeysuckle here died as fencing was ripped out and replaced. I tried planting some from nurseries but it never took off.
I hope your headache is gone soon.
Back to the basement. :P

Good morning :)
WTG! Karl :D "Never neglect a mess" is one of the rules for staying out of squalor. ;D Sounds like you are making proper use out of that closet shelving.
My Honeysuckle has come back beautifully and is once again covered in blooms. The scent is one of the pleasures of summertime. :D
After I tend to the cats needs my plan for today is to get rid of this sick headache.
Hoping everybody is doing well today. :D

Earlier this week while sitting down to a meal, I shook the bottle of BBQ sauce, and suddenly became aware that the cap wasn't screwed on. Bits of sauce splashed across the table and onto various table items.
I allowed myself to finish the meal first, but then I made sure that I didn't leave until everything was properly cleaned up. I've learned that "I can take care of it later" is dangerous.
Tonight, I got out the ice cream for the usual reward (along with some cake this time), and started in on the hall closet. I use this one for linens, light bulbs, and assorted tools. I took everything out of the top two shelves, dusted them, and repacked with a bit more organization. I'd never noticed that I'd left most of the top shelf empty. I'm now using that one for light bulbs, and for various items that I don't expect to need anytime soon. The other shelf has candles and matches, a spare wall clock, household tools (most of which are now standing in a glass jar, though I might try looking for a better container later), and duct tape. And half that shelf is now empty.

Lavenders are such pretty, calming shades.
Tillie you have every right to be totally crazed by his stubbornness. I hope your garden has been coming back so you can take pleasure in that.
Ankle is fine today, Diane. Sweet Molly is probably thinking, now how can I get a bowl of ice cream? :)
I have been trying to keep to my schedule of certain maintenance chores on their assigned days so I don't get all OCD on redoing everything every day. That's been going well.
So tomorrow I will hit the furnace room. Someone is coming Monday morning to talk about getting the water treatment system. They'll need plenty of room to work in there. It would be a good time to actually purge rather than shuffle. That's where I store holiday decorations, many craft supplies and old stuff like baby toys and furniture from my great-grandmother. Once upon a time most of it was neatly organized on shelves.
I saw where the mice had totally eaten my Indian corn cobs and candy Christmas wreaths. And there are file boxes full of old checks and bank statements I think could be shredded. Too bad the mice won't do that for me.
The heat is moving back into this area tomorrow so it will be good to work in a cool basement.

Some years ago when I painted my kitchen area I chose Lavender. Never regretted my decision. :D The kitten tried to help me paint today but I managed to keep him out of the wet paint. I am pretty sure that not all his hoarded paint is still viable but by making him open the cans and look at it maybe he will toss the crap ones and that will reduce his hoard a little.
He tends to hoard home improvement/repair items and then lets them sit till they are no longer any good. Like his caulk that all dried up while it could have been used around the house. Whenever I asked if I could use it he always said "NO, I am saving it in case we need it some day." Well, we needed it then at that very moment.
To be honest, I am very resentful/angry/totally pizzed off about living this way. But I will keep taking deep/calming breaths and keep trying to get him to see the world differently.

So happy Tillie is getting excited about using up old paint, it makes my day. I got some boards out to paint today, for fun. A friend wanted to paint her house a shade of purple/lavender, so gave me , the quarts of the ones she didn't like. I am going to paint the ladder going up to storage in garage. Each rung will be a different color of purple. Today I got up at 5am, couldn't sleep so got up and worked in walkway, and room off walkway, still a section in that room that has junk, want to get junk out and vacuum up mouse droppings. I am getting backlog of dishes done, one done, will put away, and do another load. Sure liked it when I was doing daily. How is the ankle today Dianne? Roxie, I appreciate all your insight and explaining how you feel. I have never been a slow waker upper, I wake up, jump up and get going, the bad part is, if it is after 5 hours asleep, still can't go back to sleep. Fun to learn about differences and similarities. Molly didn't eat much for a few days, when she was so bad, now she has eaten all her food today, and laid a gigantic log, her eyes are happier today. I am thinking she may have had a kidney stone that passed, not sure. She doesn't look near death today, I am a little afraid to get my hopes up, just so relieved to see her more comfortable today. Thank you all for your support this week, sure made life better. I need to go pick up a prescription, so hot out, don't want to get in hot car. Looking forward to hearing how your day is going.

Hi, everyone. Good to read your posts and to have you check in. I'm just now starting my day, so I'm having coffee and trying to wake up. It takes me awhile. I can sure relate to Karl on that!
Tillie, great paint plans! Look at all that "free" paint you have access to. For individual jobs you can mix and make your own color so long as the type matches. Once I bought discounted cans of paint of different colors and painted each wall in the cat shelter a different color. It was fun and looked great.

I really ought to be getting some work done, either employment-type or cleaning, but I'm having problems with sleep...
If I'm up in time, I'll check the chat room for the unofficial Friday session (Noon PDT, 1pm MDT, 2pm CDT, 3pm EDT; this is 8pm British Summer Time for Kara's benefit).

Hi Hope everybody is feeling better. Talked with my hoarder about all the paint he is hoarding in the pumphouse. He agreed with me that I should be allowed to use it before it all goes to waste by drying out. He stirred and straigned lumps out of some white enamel for me. It was only 2 gallons of paint in a 5 gallon bucket. Tomorrow I plan to freshen up the cabinet area under the kitchen sink. :) Should be interesting with a curious over active kitten helping me. Right now he is an orange tabby with no white markings.
Next I will look for a paint suitable to paint the hallway. As I empty these paint cans his paint hoard will slowly get smaller. :D Got this idea fron Diane using up all her paints.

Hi Dianne, Actually I've always had really bad cramps; ever since I first started my period when I was 12 years old. I think it has something to do with my "Polycystic Ovary Syndrome" that I was diagnosed with when I was 14 years old.

MayMay, I know you hate going to the doctor but you may need to break down and see an ob/gyn. My daughter had severe pain with her periods when she was in her early 20's. She had endometriosis and it was really bad. It had spread so much that her doctor told her it was unlikely she'd have kids.
I forget a lot about that time but I think she made dietary changes (she was always a healthy eater but got more extreme) took meds and ended up getting pregnant with twins when she was 24. Please get checked.
Diane, so glad to hear Molly is perking up. Must be those special treats. :)
So with all the crap around here you'd think I would have fallen at some point. But nooo, I have to go and fall down 1 step outside today. Not sure how but I twisted my ankle and landed on the top of my foot. It's not bad. It's just enough to be a good excuse to prop my foot up and read outside instead of work. :)

I have been out in the walkway all morning, actually got to furthest corner today, first time in 20 years!! Talk about dirt, well my mission was to find enough to fill 95 gallon cart for garbage pickup tomorrow, still a little more to go but 97 degrees is too darn hot. I swept then vacuumed cement out there, then wiped down walls, had music on. I can walk to back yard now without injury. Still have to go through a bunch of junk, but the tiny goat trail took growth hormones, and now is several feet wide, and clean. I have lost my motivation for thrift store donations, just finding things that can be thrown away for now, some that could have been cleaned and donated are going to the dump. Found two huge bundles of clothes wrapped in big sheets, from when I moved to Bend for a few years. I will start going through them tonight or tomorrow. really enough nice clothes in the bundles for a full closet and then some, really sad how much shopping filled my life for so many years. Haven't been shopping in over 3 months, except for things I actually need, like food. We are so lucky to have this site to process our thoughts. My dog is doing a little better, not sure what is different, she actually went down steps this morning by herself to pee in yard. Thank you all for your kindness through this difficult week. I looked on bichon site and said they live 12-15 years on average, she is 14, I have known several that lived to 18 so just thought that was the normal age to die, reassured me that it is nothing I did wrong.

Hi Roxie, Actually whenever I have cramps, they are always really really really PAINFUL. They are so painful that whenever I have them I get totally paralyzed and I can't do anything. I remember once, back when I was in Highschool, I had really bad cramps while I was in gym class. And I remember, they were so bad that I ended up falling to the ground and just laying on the floor crying because I was in so much pain. :(

MayMay, try yoga stretches next time...it seemed to help me when I had cramps decades ago. ;d
Karl, that was really good feedback from your landlord. You can be proud of what you've accomplished. I know we're proud of you!
Tillie, hope to hear you back at conquering your world, sis!
Dianne, it's good to hear you get outside and enjoy nature for awhile.
Kara, that sounds like an exciting project. I'd like to know more about the Finnish therapy to which you referred.
Janie, I did develop a dish washing system, as I think of it. When I'm on the computer (or in your case, maybe, studying) I fill the kitchen sink with very hot water and dish wash liquid, and put the cruddy dishes in to soak. At least 10 minutes. But then I take a computer break, wash that load of dishes, and rinse them and put them in the other sink to dry. Put in the next cruddy load to soak. Return to computer. Repeat until dishes are done and counters/stove wiped. It makes it pretty painless all around.
I can do the same thing for sweeping or vacuuming or other minor chores.
Diane, how are you and your pup today?
Ali, you are most fortunate to have supportive family to help you recover. Please keep us posted, okay?
I woke up very late again today after a late bedtime. Same old same old. Got teeth brushed yesterday and some mail sorted. Minimal stuff.

Diane, Dianne & Roxie - Thanks for the encouragement!! Hoping to have this exam done by the second week of August.
Yesterday I didn't work and studied all day, taking breaks here and there to eat, scoop litter boxes and make a few phone calls. I was going to do some maintenance, but somehow never made that happen. Never made it into the shower either. Oops.
It seems that studying is making me more tired than cleaning. Tuesday night I fell asleep right after dinner. (We eat late, so this was about 9pm) Woke up to plates, glasses and leftover pizza sitting on the coffee table. Usually my DH would take this into the kitchen before he went upstairs to sleep, but apparently he was too tired also. At least there was no dinner clean-up other than the pizza pan. Same thing happened last night, but DH did get the plates and glasses to the kitchen counter. Now I'm sitting here looking at dried up orzo pasta, a covered dish with a little bit of veggies left in it, and a dirty pan that I used to bake fish in, all sitting on the stovetop. I had planned to clean up and study more after dinner, just couldn't keep my eyes open. Thought I would just close my eyes for 15 minutes... and woke up at 5am this morning. I'm still sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee, but will make myself clean up the stovetop and load the dishwasher before I leave for work. I have to go into the office this morning, and then plan to get kitchen maintenance done before I start studying again. If I can get the kitchen back in shape I'll be happy for today.

Hi Roxie, everyone. Feeling exhausted after 2 days of filming course.
I came up with the idea of promoting a talking therapy used in Finland in the hope of helping UK public awareness of Open Dialogue. Filming, scripting and visuals still need to come together. It is like sorting kitchen, living room and bedroom ready for an inspection in 3 days!!! So much to organise !!! My head is spinning. Still got one day to go.
The rain has finally come to wash away the dryness and humidity of Wales. I am so relieved.
Benefit Assessment News:The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that it will be contracting new providers to carry out work capability assessments (WCAs) alongside Atos Healthcare, after a recent review found assessments to be "of unacceptably poor quality".
As I have filled in the questionnaire and awaiting assessment, when will I be assessed? in 6 months?

Hi everyone. :)
Sorry I haven't been posting a lot lately. :(
I've just been super busy. And today I haven't been feeling very well. I've been having really bad stomach cramps all day. Earlier today the cramps were so bad; and all I did was lay in the fetal position on my bed and cry. :(
Right, I never got around to posting that here. I passed the inspection, and the landlords didn't complain about little stuff -- they were happy with it being generally clean and clutter-free. I got this email from Mrs Landlord afterwards:
I hope that you are able to finish the clean up on the hood filter and the frame. Use hot water with a good degreaser, the oven-off will eat up the protective clear finish on the frame and therefore it can rust later on. Use a good old tooth brush on the filter surface to dis lodge any oily build up. If you need any assistance, let me know.
You did a great job in cleaning up your dining area and kitchen of the plastic clutter and every day dirt! I'm amazed!
Our next inspection date is on August 17, 2013. at 10 AM. I realize that its 3 weeks away, and thought that we should get back on track. If you need a full month, Please! let me know ASAP.
Your continue cleaning effort to have a more comfortable living space and home is most appreciated.
She doesn't seem to have noticed that the 17th actually is four weeks after, and three weeks would be the 10th. But I think I should be able to make an early deadline of the 10th, even. It'll be for bathroom, hallway, and closets.
I've already been doing work in the bathroom; the cupboards are half-organized, though I'll want to move a few items around yet. The hallway area is small, I can vacuum it when I do the living room; I'll just have to find better locations for the stuff that's currently stacked there. I think the closets are pretty close to being OK as-is, but I'll empty and repack each of them to make sure, and also vacuum the inside. The linen closet has blankets and stuff -- someone (Tillie?) suggested I can store unused blankets between the box spring and mattress of my bed; that sounds like an excellent space-saver.

Ali, so good to see your posting again. Here's to a smooth and quick recovery!
Kara, good to see you posting again, too. You have been missed. Tell us more about the film-making?
Karl, for those of us who don't do chat, could you update on the inspection?
Janie, planning that school and work are right now your priorities is a good thing. You can keep maintenance in the picture maybe on a looser schedule. The purging and deep cleaning can wait until school is done. You might also ask for assistance from family? What a thought! :D Also, you could reward yourself for finishing a day's work and studying by allowing X minutes to meet up here?
Diane, we are kindred spirits in the solace that nature gives us. That is one of the things I like most about my move to Arkansas from Chicago in 2000. Just out my door is nature. In fact, this state is gorgeous and far underestimated. If you drive outside any city or town, you are deep in nature that is beautiful. It is called the Natural State for good reason. Mountains, lakes, trees, greens, wild animals, all I could want to spend my retirement years in...and not nearly as expensive as most other states (which is why I moved here).
MayMay, please check in?
Dianne, you are not lazy. I am a kindred spirit in the school of "drop it here, here it stays." It is an issue we need to deal with but it is part of the hoarding issue, not a matter of laziness. It pains me to see this sneaking back into my life, but we all know that recovery is a process not a straight shot. We WILL deal with these things, so don't beat yourself up, okay? Hugs.

Janie, sounds like you are making a great decision to focus on work and studying. As long as you keep the living area liveable, I think it is fine to do maintenance every couple of days, if you see it getting out of hand, you can put in the time to keep it as you now have it. You have given a lot of time and thought to responding to all of our posts and revealing lots of info about yourself, which I thank you for. I will really miss your posts, and am happy you are doing the right think to nurture yourself. Good you noticed you felt overwhelmed early enough that you could change routine before you had an accident or got sick, which we seem to do to slow us down! Looking forward to hearing how things are going. Maybe you could just post about your life so won't take much time. Thanks again for all you have given us. Hugs and congrats

Janie, totally understandable. There are plenty of times things come up that demand time and energy that throws life out of balance. It won't last forever and you already have a great base with all the work you've done in the main rooms you use. The upstairs can wait with no real ill effects.
I hear you about the computer. It can be a nice break that slides into real time wasting. That happens to me a lot. I once tried to figure the approximate hours I spent on a game of Bookworm to get to my top score of over 82 million. It had taken about 6 months and literally weeks of hours. What a waste.
Congrats on the laundry and getting those pee stains out. That takes time and effort.
I'll miss your regular posts with insights, stories, encouragement and green font. I love color. :) So please don't wait too long between check-ins. I look forward to when you get back to posting almost every day!
Good luck on the exam!!

The 3 loads of laundry that I picked up from the kids bathroom floor have all been double-washed and put away. Towels in the linen closet, clothes in plastic totes to keep in the laundry room for now.
I'm finding that I'm having a difficult time with balance in my life right now. I just can't seem to handle work, maintenance, de-cluttering and studying all at the same time. Feel overwhelmed... like I had too much change at once with going back to work a few weeks ago and adding studying to the mix last week. I've set a higher priority on work (obviously can't ignore that) and studying for now. If I can do maintenance at least every few days I should be okay, but can't do it daily like I had been. I also find myself on the computer way too much, mostly using it as a procrastination tool to avoid studying. To get my life back in balance I've decided to put my de-cluttering project on hold and cut back on maintenance and computer time until I pass this exam. The studying is intense and I need to give it my full concentration. I do plan to check-in here, but if I don't post regularly it's not because I'm abandoning my vision, just need to lay low for a few weeks. I hope everyone keeps up the good work and I will join back in with progress as soon as I can.
Tillie - Happy to read that you and Marty are doing better and on the road to recovery.
Diane - Being in the nature setting you described sounds like a sure pick-me-up. Despite all that is going on around you right now, you still managed to consolidate stuff and paint more of the floor. I admire your inner strength in handling all you have in front of you right now.
Dianne - Great job on widening the trails! Enjoy having Laura back home!

Thanks Dianne. You are so funny about wanting to do laundry. I just finished a load of laundry, and put in dryer for several minutes to get wrinkles out then hung on line to finish drying. I am sweating, thought really dumb to do laundry when it is so hot, then I read your post and now I am glad I was able to do laundry, so thanks Dianne.

Washer repair man came today. Of course he had to order a part and it will be over a week before it can be fixed. Funny how I can let laundry go for weeks (some of it for years) but when I can't do it that's all I want to do.
I've been clearing/widening goat trails. A lot of it is stuff that needed to be put away ~ shoes, books, bath supplies, dry foods like cereal and crackers. That kind of stuff bugs me because it shows I was just plain lazy. I drop things wherever and there it lays/stays.
I went thru one of the times that I wanted to get some things done not just maintenance. So tomorrow will be catching up on the clean areas again.
Laura got home this evening. Rested, tan and relaxed. Her furbabies went crazy. Good to have her home. :)

Ali, sounds like all went well with surgery, happy you are being well taken care of, thanks for letting us know you are ok. Thanks for the hugs Dianne, Roxie, Janie, sure needed them and appreciate reading all you wrote and also helpful suggestions. Yesterday a friend picked me up and took me to a lake, since I was a sobbing mess, she decided the best treatment would be nature, and she was so right. We climbed up towards a higher lake for an hour, then realized I was too out of shape to go another hour, very steep switchbacks, so we went back to lower lake. I did a happy dance in the water, my first happy dance in many months. So grateful she talked me into leaving my problems at home and just go with her. The heavy exercise would lift anyones spirits I think. Such a beautiful area, so many beautiful trees, clean cool water, so grateful. This morning I moved all the stuff I haven't gone through yet to one area, it was all over the place, thus I could not see progress. I feel better even though there is a huge bunch of bins, boxes and bags full, I can see how much is left to do. And I do not have to do it this week, just nice to consolidate. Cleaned and painted more of the floor this morning. Caught two more mice. 5 down, 600 to go, lets hope not. Yesterday did some painting before she picked me up at 8am. Last night watered yard, did dishes. Today would like to bag up a wool rug I don't want Molly to pee on, and will put in garage until she is gone. I have plastic, blankets, and towels for her on couch and daybed. Carry her out to yard, doesnt want to pee out there today, did last night, I am working on doggie underwear today. She is not real keen on it. Thanks again for all the support.

Good morning :)
Been a rough few days here but today things are starting to look up. Marty (the cat) is doing better and so am I. Temperatures are supposed to be better with a chance of thunder storms.
My To-Dos for today are... Cat stuff- water/food/scoop boxes. Remember Marty's meds. Take it easy and rest. Make and eat some real food. Maybe brown rice & veggies?
Wonderful to see everybody here! :D

Roxie - First of all, big CONGRATS on maintaining your daily dental routine! So proud of you!! Give me an "S", give me an "M", give me an "I" "L" "E". What does it spell? SMILE!! :-)
About the laundry... The first load came out good after I ran them through a second time to get out more dirt. I got up early this morning to finish the load I had soaking overnight. Waiting for the second cycle to finish now so I can throw them in the dryer while I shower for work. I have one more load from the bathroom floor, so I'm going to let that load soak while I'm at work. After dinner I'll finish up that and then get busy putting the laundry away.
You can see why I planned to clean out the linen closet before I did this. Now I have a clean closet to put away all these towels!! The clothes will remain in the laundry room until the bedrooms are cleaned out. I have plastic totes to store the kids clean clothes in for now.
NOTE: I've been through this process before. When my DD moved back home last year she brought with her bags of cat smelly clothes. I don't think she ever hung up anything and the floor was her closet. Which meant her cat had all those clothes to cuddle up on (and sometimes pee on). Using the Odo-Ban cleaner really helps. It's a disinfectant and deodorizer and I think it's great. I used this in the washer, in addition to detergent, when I washed all her clothes back then and was pleased with the results. To keep the clothes fresh, I always put a small amount of Odo-Ban in the rinse cycle (as recommended) whenever I did her laundry after that. I was able to salvage most of her clothes, only throwing out those that remained stained.

Oh, dear, I am all upside down and befuddled. Went to sleep around 11pm and awoke around 2am and here I am, reading long articles and postings and such, waiting for the sun to come up in another hour or more.
I did pick up meds yesterday (yesterday?...I think so?). I also rounded up the outdoor dishes (cats) in order to wash them later.
I've been having to fiddle with the computer crashing too often. Grump.
Diane, Janie, how you doing? Janie, I vote to toss those kitty icked things. IMHO the smell never fully comes out but maybe only the cats notice.
Hi all. Looking forward to your posts. I'll sign on again later. Already brushed my teeth for today's count. If I finish out July with a successful once a day routine, in August I'll shoot for 2x a day. yes.

Yesterday: brushed teeth, bathed, shampooed, clean clothes, grocery shopping, grocery putting away, put clean dishes away, did another load of dishes, emptied two dresser drawers for clothing donatins, watered plants, brought big garbage bin back up to the house, took two bags of books to the car for donation.
Slept until just now. Have to go off to pick up meds and start my real day.
Hugs to all.

Getting a slow start to the day. Took care of morning animal chores then went back to bed for a bit. Today I plan on widening some goat trails where stuff has sorted of creeped together leaving only inches for my feet.

This morning I picked up foul icky cat smelly towels and clothes from the kids bathroom floor. My DS was last home in March, my DD moved out in May. And who knows how long before that the towels and clothes were laying there. The first load is soaking in hot water, Tide, Oxi-Clean and Odo-Ban. I plan to let it soak until I get home from work later. Whatever still smells after laundering will be trashed.

Diane - As hard as it is, and as much as you will miss your friend, sometimes the best action is to let her go with the dignity she deserves. I'm crying while I type this, so you know I only mean this in the kindest way. {{HUGS}}

Thanks Dianne and Janie, really difficult day today with incontinence and her legs giving out at times, I know what is coming and it is so difficult to deal with the decline knowing I will have to live without her, she is the bright spot in every day. I will miss her so much. 14 years is the longest relationship I have had
