Hi everybody! :D

I hope everyone is having a good day today. :)

I also hate going to the grocery store. What I always like to do is wait until it's really late at night, and then go grocery shopping. Because then there's barely anyone around. I only like going to the grocery store during the day if the guys are with me; because they make grocery shopping fun. We actually almost got kicked out of a grocery store once because we were having so much fun. LOL. ;D

Ditto for me! I am needing to go to the grocery store but I, too, have a problem with going anywhere and being around people so I am trying not to stress over it and concentrate on the big 2 loads of laundry I have going (at daughter's house). Seeing my grandbabies is always nice though!

Good morning :)

So, what is everybody up to today?

I fed the cats their canned food breakfast.
Have been reading here trying to catch up on all the posts. :D

Today I need to wash up a few dishes, wipe the counter off.
Sweep the floor and should vacuum the carpet.
Scoop the litter boxes.
About half an hour of To-Dos total.

Then the rest of the day is free for me to do whatever I want. :)
Now I just need to figure out what I want to do. lol :)
Won't be going anywhere since I hate leaving the house and being surrounded by people.
Might go grocery shopping tomorrow.
The county fair is going on right now but I don't want to go to it.
Maybe I will just play with that dollhouse and watch spooky movies on Netflix.

Whatever you all decide to do today make it fun! :D

Hello Roxie so nice to see you again and thank you.

Yes we all had a late night but it was so worth it. So far I am staying motivated and inspired, doing tasks in between, and really enjoying the company here.

I'm sorry to hear you lost that post I know how that can be...its frustrating and demoralizing at times but I am glad to see you here today.

I am doing laundry at my daughter's at the moment which is a little stressful but it is one of my safe places and some of my little darlings are which is always wonderful!

I am hoping to have some company here off and on, and I am busily reading all of Cory's Weekly Tasks wheres and thinking about starting that up again if everyone wants to.

Forward march!

Yea, Dianne, for the tooth brushing!

Tillie, you are a cleaning machine, my friend. Good to hear from you.

Dianne, Kara, Diane, MayMay, Karl, Mare, hi. Sounds like some of you were super busy while some of us slept.

Yes, Mare, you can chill. Your energy put onto these boards will wane a bit over time, and so long as coming here keeps you inspired and you actually make progress, it's all good. Proud of you and Kara and Karl for diving in and getting good work done.

I had a long post yesterday, then the computer crashed so I gave up.

I brushed teeth, scooped litter, changed litter box pad (pew), did dishes, countertops, microwave, cleaned floor fan (ew), picked up outdoors paper and ceramic plates, shredded mail, picked up Fronline and Advantage for the cats, took bags and boxes to recycle, and did a deep scrub on the kitchen sink.

Today I will be on the go a bit, which is difficult and very rare for me. I struggle with agorophobia and social anxiety, as well as depression and some physical problems (CFIDS, FM, arthritis, a minor heart condition) and I know I am not alone with that.

I am at my daughter's house doing laundry which will take me about 3 hours, then to the store for food and a few essentials. Not looking forward to the store... *fretfretfret*

I am so grateful to these boards for support and understanding, encouragement and celebrations!

Hi everybody! :D

It sounds like everyone has gotten a lot of stuff done today. WAY TO GO! :D

Today has been pretty uneventful. Nothing to crazy happened today. :)

Thanks Roxie,
We will definitely have a lot of photos in the book. And because we plan on having so many photos and so many stories in the book, we might even end up writing 2 books. :)

Hi Dianne,
Sorry to hear about your washer situation. I'm glad to hear that you got your AC fixed though. :)

I'm going to try to partially make up for the lack of cleaning earlier this week by doing at least one more 15m session before bed; it shouldn't take long to vacuum the closet floors so that I can reload them. (A little longer if I want to do the hallway between them in the same session, as it still has some magazine stacks to deal with.)

I concur what Karl wrote about. Still not gone to bed yet and it is 6am Satuday now. I spent 15 mins dealing with fruit and veg in the fridge drawer. The pepper had gone mouldy so evertything in the drawer had to go. A hot steam clean of the drawer itself and the self above. All clean and dry and put back. I had been putting it off. Fugus spore mentally gives me the jidders. Still have tackle webs on walls and ceilings. (seen the spider too. Friendly little fellow)

I put out 2 black bags of rubbish this week. WWWWOOOOHHHOOO. Washed my hair in the utilities offered by Salvation Army staff (only have a bath at home and no shower facility).

Got Brownie Holiday to pack for yet. Before that got laundry to do too. The TO DO list is growing before I have started !!! YIKES. Better stop there before it reaches the floor. Sorry no decluttering this week.

Good evening ladies - Tillie, Dianne, Roxie, Kara lovely to see you again, MayMay, diane!

I slept too late today, not up until after 4 in the afternoon. I take some medications that make me tired but this is unacceptable to me. Seeing the doctor on the 9th so will ask him about it.

I was in the chat earlier and we did a 15 minute challenge and we all met our goals, then got back together for a victory celebration it was nice.

So today I have thrown out more electronic useless cords and such, took out the trash, cleaned up and discarded trash near my chair outside, cleaned the kitchen counter. Still need to do dishes (just a couple).

Looking forward to catching up here and reading more, posting again.

This has been a real blessing for me, finding these forums and chat. At the same time I am fighting let it take up all my time but I imagine that's normal for now.

Tally-ho!

Four of us met for the "unofficial" Friday chat, and towards the end, I mentioned the "everybody take a cleaning break" idea; the three of us who were still there were all OK with it, so we went to our tasks and came back after 15 minutes.

I chose to clean out the hall closet, since the linen closet is still in a waiting state. I cleared off the top shelf, dusted it (and cleared the cobwebs near the ceiling), and put stuff back more organized. Hats on one side, umbrellas on the other.

Then onto the closet floor space. Vacuum cleaner and accessories, cloth shopping bags, and a couple of cloth briefcases. I discovered a pair of shoes that I hadn't realized was in there. I'll be using the vacuum before I put it back. I moved the shopping bags to the hook in the back of the closet.

All finished with cleaning for today. :D
Washed the front of the house, porch and sidewalk too.
Windows all clean inside & out.
Washed all my sun catchers and other decorations.
Did a wash load of rags.
Sort of washed the back porch. Can't hose it all off due to his creeping hoard that comes right up to that area.
Hosed down only one half of the other outside wall and washed my window over there.
He has managed to clutter up the whole other half of that side of the house.
I do NOT climb around and clean where he has cluttered. :(
So two and a half outside walls are covered in clutter and spider webs and home to all sorts of creatures. :(
Can't do his bedroom windows, the outside of the bathroom window or the outside of one livingroom window.
I also do not wash his bedroom windows inside because they are impossible to reach. :(

Been sitting down, ate lunch.
Soon I will take a shower.
Frustrating to not be able to completely do a task due to his hoarding.

Oh well, I will be content that I did a GREAT job on what I did do. :)

AC has been fixed again. The fellow put in a new thermostat. I had told him a couple months ago when he was here that it had been problematic but he said it was fine. Not so much.

But I am so pissed about the washing machine. A week to get an apt, had a part ordered, then calling all this week for a status update, finally found out it won't be in til the 7th (so that's a 2 week wait), then wait another week for an appt. So one f*$@ing month without a washer.

It's under warranty so it won't cost anything but it sure isn't worth the aggravation of having to wait so long. >:(

Anyway got a lot of regular cleaning done today. And brushed my teeth. :)

Whilst recovering from this summer cold, I have been encouraging my fantasy mind by going into my japanese bedroom of calmness and simplicity. Such bliss. I hope it might motivate me physically to get stuff out of the bedroom.

I question myself:

What is the difference between my dream and reality?
What needs to change?
What do I need to get rid of to make my dream come true?

Once I have answer these then I can answer the following:-

How do I live at present?
How do I visualise my future in living?
What needs to change in my behaviour for my life to become my dream living?

Once I have mentally broken down what needs to go I then hope get on with getting rid of stuff to achieve my dream.

Realisation:- I admire looking at old paper books (note books) and new paper books. I want to collect both but realise that they don't go together in style. What a dilemma!

Trying to keep up daily maintainence.

Good morning everybody! :)

So wonderful to hear about your days, accomplishments, plans and how you are all doing.

My twenty four hour internet disconnect was hoard related.
The cables and doo-dads are connected together in my hoarder's bedroom. Buried under a ton of clutter in a huge tangle of wires & cables around his computer desk.
Anyways, he ended up digging through all that, crawled under his desk and by laying on his stomach managed to fixed the problem. :)
I put the kitten in there to "help" him. lol

It is only 62 degrees here this morning.
When it warms up some my plan for today is to hose down the outside walls, wash the windows & screens. Then wash the inside windows.
This is sort of easy since I can only access two exterior walls because the other two are inaccessable due to his hoard.

But first I need to do all the cat related tasks.
Guess I should get dressed too.

WAY TO GO! everyone! :D

Diane, I am SOO happy to hear Molly is doing so well! Maybe the heat had gotten her down also. I was worried since you post every day. Even if you get busy please put one little blurb saying, Molly and I are good.

Roxie, what an EXCELLENT idea about the credit cards!!! I had put all but one in the desk but your idea is a real prevention! Thanks!

Ok I'm off to brush teeth. I missed yesterday which wasn't a good start to my monthly task. Roxie, keep me in line on that one. Normally I NEVER ask for someone to hold me accountable. It's a pretty good chance I'll rebel and not do it. But I'll try harder. :)

I am able to get on here by loading the computer to safe mode. Can't seem to get to normal mode. Is this a metaphor? LOL

Yesterday, I DID get the three done from my checklist: meds, tooth brushing, litter scooping. I also cut up credit cards I didn't want or that were expired. Sorted a tiny stack of mail. Opened and dealt with last week's mail (and got a surprise refund check because I overpaid a clinic).

Diane, it is great to hear that Molly is rallying so much! Yeahoooo! And it is also wonderful that you have your friend willing to come back and assist some more. Yes, I think it is easier in some ways to have another person with you as you work along. So much of our work is done alone.

Dianne, how about putting your credit cards into a cup of water and putting the cup of water in the freezer? Sort of a safety and you still have the card available in an emergency. Remember your big goal of paying off credit cards. You can do it, and it feels SO good.

Mare, whatever you can accomplish, in whatever way, is progress! I am enjoying your postings and your happiness at being here. What did your therapist think?

MayMay, how about you take some photos of the firefighters and yourself over the coming years, to include in that book and in your journals? Share copies with the guys. And, I am proud of you keeping your place nicely! [I was just checking up on you...ahem.]

Tillie, I note in the August thread that you tossed an EMPTY paint can. YEAH!

Janie, only a couple more weeks and you can get back to "normal"...hang in there.

It makes me happy to see a lot of posts on here.

Hi everybody! :)

Thanks for the encouragement Dianne and Roxie. :)

Today I told the guys about my book idea; and they said that they would love to co-write the book with me. So now we are all going to start writing in journals to keep track of all the things that we do together, and individually. So that when we write the book, we will remember all of the stuff that we want to put into it. It will probably be a good 10 to 15 years before we actually write the book though. :)

Roxie,
Everything is going good in the apartment; and I'm still keeping my room and closet clean. :)

Diane,
OMG! It's so sad to hear about what happened to that firefighter. It makes me want to go down to the fire station right now and give all of the firefighters huge hugs. I'm glad to hear that Molly is better. :)

wow, took some time to read all the posts, nice to catch up on your thoughts and what you are doing.
My living room got messy from sorting stuff, so took empty bins out to garage, had tent in here to see if I could remember how to put it up, so it is now airing on the line on the deck, have to find the pieces that make it stand up, saw them out in the garage last week, so where are they now? No idea where their home is, put them where I could find them, guess have to leave myself notes, and big labels. I put some stuff away in garage, worked on big bedroom, then made a big pot of soup, first cool day in weeks, so nice to have soup in refrigerator, on hot days either eat cold or microwave it, nice to have healthy meal with very little clean up. I was so appreciative of my friends help for 2 hours on Tuesday that she said she will come for an hour or 2 on next Tuesday. I get so much more done when someone is watching me and writing down what I get rid of. Easier to make quick decisions, knowing she is just sitting there waiting to write, don't want to inconvenience her so make a decision. Tried to do that this morning by myself, and wasn't as successful. By myself, I can think, I need item. Plan to dishes soon. Did do 4 loads of laundry today. Molly is better and stopped peeing on things, so washed all the towels, blankets etc. that she peed on. Checked her urine this morning, it is now yellow, was clear, ph acidic, no cells, so think kidneys working again, not sure if it was temporary or if it will happen on and off. I am just so grateful she is able to walk and pee outside now, and is eating and drinking. When she was sick, she drank huge amounts of water all day, but no sugar in urine, not diabetic. thanks for all the concern through last weeks tear jerker.
Today she appears to be her normal self Also found what looked like, a spider bite on her stomach. Thought it was a lipoma, then noticed the sting, and swelling is less, wonder if that could have made her that sick.
Nice to see all the communication on here and new people joining.
We are having lots of lightening strikes here, 1200 strikes since last night, one fire in Sisters killed a local firefighter, tree fell on him, so sad. A little scarey, happy I was able to stay home and work all day.

Haha Roxie, such a cute story about the pilling cat demo! I HATE pilling cats. Too many scars.

I very much LOVE massaging my fur babies. It is so soothing for me as well as for them. When my stepson was little he used to ask me to check his head for ticks. He really just wanted the massage. :)

Mare, I think there was insufficient response to Cory's "weekly chore" thing. Plus, he's been very busy with television projects and with franchise projects. It would not stop YOU however for starting such a thread. :)

Dianne, I encourage you to find/make time to get back to volunteer horse therapy or horse massage. You can determine the amount of time and balance it so you don't feel like you are also neglecting your animals. When I would go to the cat shelter I always told my own cats and reassured them I'd be back and love on them.

Like you with horses, I am with cats. If one is in my vicinity I usually have my hands on it. And I do cat massage, especially their little paws. At first they are like "WHAT! What are you DOING?!" then they realize it feels good and soon those little paws are spread to the max to really enjoy it.

I remember one day at the shelter, an adopting couple and I were discussing pilling cats. I reached over and picked up a cat asking it "would you mind helping me demonstrate?" I used that cat to show my technique, and the cat was quite docile. I then kissed it's head and put in back where it had been, thanking it. The couple was sitting there with their eyes big and their mouths open. LOL

Hi everyone!! Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I'm still here. My days seem to consist of nothing but working and studying. I have my exam scheduled for 2 weeks from now and I'm hoping I pass it on the first try so I can get on with my life. It's weird, but I actually miss cleaning now. About the only thing I've been doing regularly is scooping cat litter. The first floor is starting to really look bad, but nothing a few hours of cleaning won't cure. Counting down the days until I am "study-free"!!

Ah, Roxie you are so right. When I want something I just put it on a credit card. One of my goals has been to pay off the credit cards and use cash as much as possible. I started last month with the goal of finishing within a year. And yes, I overspend on others because I get so much pleasure out of that; as much as if it was on myself. I've been staying out of stores unless there was a very specific reason to go in (like for food). Although I feel no guilt for the spending today (I still have a big, ol' grin on my face) I know it's something I need to be very careful about. :)

And great suggestion about the horse therapy. I actually was doing that a couple years ago. My grandson was 4 and was riding therapeutically. He's such a tiny, little bean, even now at 6 he only weighs less than 40 lbs. He wanted me there at every session to be a walker.

Even standing chatting with people I have a tendency to use my hands on animals without really being aware of it. One of the girls asked if I would like to learn massage therapy for the horses. I loved it but felt guilty about the time I was taking away from my animals. But yes, therapy is a great way to be around the horses when we're not able to do as much as we used to.

I think you mentioned in one post about hanging around a stable to be near the horses but that the people might not like it too much. For the most part I've found that horse people love volunteers. Once they get an idea of your experience they're more than happy to share the workload no matter how light.

Is there any way the weekly and weekend tasks be brought back to life, or does it depend on Cory? Such a great idea with his input as well. I haven't read the whole thing yet to see if there is a reason it was stopped. The last thing I got to was:

[quote=Cory]OK, so we got a small response from last weeks task, but it will catch on :)

This weekend, we are tackling the refrigerator! Let's get into the stockpile of refrigerated goods and thin it out. If you are like me, there are probably a few condiments at minimum you could get rid of...you know the half empty pizza sauce jar from 6 months ago when you made homemade mini pizzas, the cocktail sause from 2009's New Years Eve Party. Am I close? Lets all do our part and remove what we are not eating regularly. This will also reduce energy as your refrigerator is not struggling to keep these items cold! And while you are there, might as well get the Windex, 409, or your favorite cleaner and scrub it clean. Don't forget the freezer. Make like an archeologist and dig out those ancient TV dinners and frost bitten packages of who knows what. Your task has been delivered, so get to it :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

AnneW I am so glad to see you posting, and excited that you are ready to tackle learning new ways as you settle into your new home. Doing a happy dance!

I have had several therapists over the years, but the toughest loss was when one I was very attached to died at the age of 37. I was devastated. He had a red chair he used to sit in, and alternatingly, I wanted to go sit in that chair and to smash it to bits. He was slightly a flower child and I can just see him CHOOSING to stay on the other side because he liked it. That made me so mad at him. It has been decades since I lost him, and I did find other and better (for me and for my stage of development) in time. The important thing is to feel some sense of connection to the therapists.

MayMay, write, write. You can always do drafts and set them aside for later if you wish. Meanwhile, how are things in your apartment? Hmm? :D

Dianne, and other experienced horsewomen, have you given any thought to maybe trying to work with horse therapy folks? I guess you could start as a volunteer if you could find such folks. It would be so rewarding, you'd still be around horses, and your expertise would be so helpful to young or disabled people.

It is so lovely to be able to get online and get here. I'm grateful for that!

Mare, you can do this. I have found the most useful idea for me is to break things down into smaller tasks and be happy with that much of an accomplishment. The second most useful for me is to do a "ta da" list rather than a "to do" list. Like Tillie said, you can get a lot done in an unstructured day. For me that is true, too, because I experience demand resistance to lists or "have to" ideas.

Kara, how are you dear one? Missing you.

Dianne, most of my shopping sprees in the past have been shopping for other people. I guess for me that was a way of showing love, so I understand what you've done regarding your daughter. However, be sure you actually have the budget for it and that you nip it in the bud, okay? I'm concerned, not chastizing you! Love you.

Diane, how are you doing? Painting, what?

I may not have mentioned some folks individually, but I AM reading and caring.

I don't yet know what I'll accomplish today beyond my daily checklist (meds, teeth, scooping litter) presuming I get those done. Tonight is Project Runway on tv and I'm looking forward to that, for sure. So in the next three hours I'll do some stuff.

Hugs to all

Confession time.... I went on a spending spree today and I am on such a high!!!

But it wasn't for me so I feel like it's kind of ok. But I know that crazy good feeling of acquiring shows I still have work to do.

Long story short....my married daughter was struggling horribly with family problems last night. While she got into a doctor today (and got on much needed meds) I went out to get some dishes she had been wanting for a long time.

I had to go to 4 different Target stores and online but I finally got a complete set. I set everything on her table and when she came home she was so surprised and happy and a bit chiding...Mom you shouldn't spend your money, what about your washer....

But it gave me so much pleasure!! A little retail therapy can really perk things up. Since I haven't spent so freely in a long time and it was for something that will brighten her spirits daily it was worth it.

I did go past racks of the cutest kids' clothes, and jewelry, and shoes, and bags, and pretty, fresh bedding, and dog toys, and organizational stuff, and cool greeting cards with sparkles. I picked some stuff up and said no, keep moving. So that was good. There is WAY too much enticing stuff out there!!!

AnneW, reading about your August plans is so exciting to me!

You've accomplished so much with clearing out the hoard and within yourself. Taking some time to pull it all together will be thrilling.

What a weird word to use about hoarding. But I'm not sure what else to call it. Pulling it together reminds me of when I am caught up on my basics, I get more stuff done, which messes up a little the areas that are already clean. Rather than go hog wild in pushing thru with more hoard clean-up I pause. I go back thru the stuff I have just dumped in the hall or wherever and get things put away. So I've kept up with maintenance, got some junk out and remaintained. That's when the thrill comes. :) I think, damn, I am really doing this!

Yes the transition to a new therapist will be challenging. But remember YOU are the one who has done all the actual work. A therapist is a sounding board. No progress is made (with any kind of therapy) until the person becomes really invested in it. You are for sure.

And yes, we are here as your online therapists for free and what a fun group we are! :)

Hello Anne, so nice to see you and thank you for that post, I found it reassuring and inspiring.

I know how hard it is to start with a new therapist, and have been through that myself more then once.

One time, with one facility in particular I was handed off about 4 times. When they would ask about myself I said - just read my chart and notes to find out - then I would sit back, cross my arms, laugh and wait for them to do so. Hahaha. It gets so old having to repeat yourself with an entire history!

I think you are making great progress, do keep us posted.

Hi everybody! :D

WAY TO GO AnneW! :)
It sounds like you have a lot of great plans that you want to accomplish this month. THAT'S AWESOME! You can totally do it! Sorry to hear that your therapist will be retiring soon. I hope you will like your new one. :)

Hi Mare,
I had no idea that there is such a thing as "Clutterers Annonymous". That's awesome. :)

Hey Everybody!

It's a new month --Happy August!-- and, as folks have mentioned, a good opportunity to start fresh :)

Today, I am taking a day to relax & re-assess.

I got up early, drank some tea, got a little bit of weeding done, went for a short walk with a friend, & thought about my HCU goals for August. Then, I cleared away a couple of square feet of clutter by the front entry.

In a few minutes, I plan to wash up the morning's dishes, do 1 load of laundry, & go grocery shopping. Later on, I hope to spend some time reading my library book.

This month I am hoping to process & integrate the emotional & psychological work I've done over the past 2.5 months re: my hoarding issues.

I also want to work on establishing better overall order & organization. I want to re-organize 2 rooms -- now that I have empty drawers & cabinets from clearing stuff out, I want to create a structured system of order those 2 rooms. (I think this will help me "see" a sense of accomplishment -- which I haven't yet felt from July.) Although I've gotten a bunch of stuff out, the stuff that remains is not yet put away. So, all these rooms look really messy still, & it's been making me feel stressed out & down this past week. I want to change that!

Finally, this August, I want to focus on establishing more weekly cleaning routines & the practice skills required for maintaining them :)

Note: I'm also a little anxious anticipating Sept. The therapist I've been working with for the past year & a half (an exceptional woman) will be retiring at the end of August -- I only have 3 more sessions with her :(
She has been a real anchor for me as I started to confront this hoarding issue for the 3rd (& I hope final!) time in my life. In the spring of 2012, I began (in fits & starts) the process of "digging" myself out again. Of course, I will continue working with a new therapist, but I may get handed off a few times as the organization where I receive therapy is undergoing some changes -- so I'm not sure how long it will take before I am matched with a new long-term therapist. Anyway, transitions are an ongoing challenge for me.
However, I know that posting with you folks here & keeping up with the forum will help me to feel grounded & to continue working towards my ultimate goal of living "hoard free" :)

Thanks for "listening" ...Hope you guys are having productive & happy days today!

Me, too... and I have some experience with CA (Clutterers Anonymous) which is a great program but since moving to a very rural area... no meetings.

I used to have a lot more pets before I moved, now I have one small dog, Gizmo, he is a great companion. He sure does shed, though! He is a chihuahua/Terrier mix and totally loyal. I am living alone for the first time in my life so it is comforting to have him.

I think one of my biggest draw backs is trying to do things alone, I prefer to have someone sitting with me or helping put things in their various designated boxes. Its been a tough transition but I can do it!

Hey Mare,

Yeah I have 3 dogs. I have 2 German Shepherds and one bulldog. My 2 German shepherds are named after Cory and Matt Paxton. And my bulldog is named Snuggles. :)

I remember when I first posted about my 2 German shepherds, Matt and Cory, almost a year ago, Cory posted back and was like, "your dogs are named Cory and Matt? Lol. Love it!" Lol. :)

Yeah most of what I've learned about hoarding, I have learned from the show. :)

Hellohello.

I have admired Cory for some time now, his attitude and non-judgmental approach with his extreme cleaning services, his kindness and low stress way of doing things.

Yes that's funny that you named your dog after him, I bet he would be honoured hahaha.

I look forward to seeing him post, he always has good ideas and really is an expert. I have learned a great deal just by watching the show.

Hey Mare,
Yeah Cory's the best! He's actually been my number one crush for 2 years now. I love so much that I even named one of my dogs after him. LOL. I love these message boards too. I've been a regular poster on here for a little over a year now. :)
