Hi Kim,
You are in a difficult position. Does your dad want to change? I was addicted to shopping and acquiring and had to stop cold turkey, but until I was ready, no one could have convinced me shopping was a problem, since it gave me such joy. If you go to the section, "the daily chat" on message board, you can read alot about hoarding and how you can help him. Sadly there isn't much anyone can do until he sees it as a problem and wants help. If he wants help you can be his cheer leader as he gives up shopping and starts letting go of excess stuff. I wish you well.

My father has always been into collecting stuff. I can't say the house is in bad shape be he has the habit of buying stuff or getting a lot of stuff free and just keeping it. Would be ok if he could make a living out of if. I has become a financial issue with my step mom and she has recently left him. She is giving him a couple months to clean up his stuff. There is TOO much stuff. 10 of everything in the attic, garage and back yard. It is consuming him. He can't stay of the computer on Ebay or Craigslist. We have tried to get him to see it from our eyes and now it is effecting his marriage. Time is running out if not already. We need to act fast. Need counseling and a company to come in and help us sell the stuff. Where do we begin????
