Hi Nanci,

Welcome to the message boards! :)

I think I read and responded to your request in "The Daily Chat". :)

I'd love it if Cory would agree to mentor me. That would be a real dream come true. I think he is awesome! And really sexy too. ;)

I've actually never been in the online support on Sunday before; because I normally have to work on Sunday nights.

I lost track of where I sent a request for help if you come to AZ I am new to this site. Perhaps Mr Chalmers would agree to be your mentor. I will look to meet you in the online support on Sunday. Thanks for considering making this a life calling. I have spent my professional life helping others and find it challenging and essential to ask for help.

Hey Tillie,

Yeah I've been to Houston before. :)

I have an aunt and uncle that live there. :)

They are actually the ones that asked me to help with this clean-up. I am helping a friend of theirs that is a hoarder. :)

Hey MayMay :)

Have you ever been to Houston?
I have.

Because of all the water/rain they have there and all the green growing vegetation that area has a LOT of cockroaches.

People have exterminators spraying all the time but there are still a LOT of roaches.
Even in clean uncluttered homes and apartments.

So don't be too upset if you see a LOT of cockroaches.

GOOD LUCK and have fun! :D

Your enthusiasm is so inspiring MayMay!

Good for you getting a spa day in there too. What a nice way for a hoarder cleaner leader to reward herself. :)

I'm sooooo EXCITED for next weekend! :)

Next weekend I get to go to Houston, Texas. :)

I'm sooooo EXCITED and glad that I get to help another hoarder and that I get to be away from Ohio for 2 weeks. :)

I even booked an appointment to have a spa day during the second week that I am there. :)

I will miss my 2 dogs, Matt and Cory, while I'm in Texas though. :(

Hi Dianne,

Don't worry about your type-o. It's okay. :)

I actually didn't even realize that it looks like a snake tongue until you said something about it. Lol. :)

I wish there was a preview read on here too. :)

Hi Dianne,

Thank you so much. :D

You are so sweet. :D

And that is so true about how you said that different people respond best to different approaches. :)

Because that is actually why there is more than just one doctor and one clean-up specialist that works for the show.

I think it was Cory that I heard this from, but I while back ago I heard that if you sign up to be on "HOARDERS" you don't get to pick who helps you. Because the show likes to match the person with the doctor and the cleaner that they think the person would get along with the best. :)

Hey MayMay, sorry,

Instead of using (.....) brackets to use yout quote I use the little squiggles ~~~~~~~. I like using them to separate things, just a personal preference in typing. Anyway with the smile at the end of your quote my squiggle lines didn't separate with the spaces I put in so it looks like I gave you a snake tongue!!

Ah well so much for my arsty squiggles. Wish there was a preview read before posting. At least I'm getting my font better. I can barely read the posts and had to play around with a style and size that I can see better. And I love colors so having the option I will always use something fun.

Looking forward to the chat tonight. I was on last Sunday but forgot Tuesday. See you then ~~ Dianne

MayMay I am so impressed! ~~~it wasn't until I did my first clean-up that I realized it, but I find helping hoarders to be kind of therapeutic for me because I like helping people that I feel like I can relate too. :)~~~

I just love it when people find what speaks to them from their hearts and work from there. You sound like a cleaner who would never intimidate someone but just show empathy, kindness, support and firm encouragement when needed. Some of the people I've seen on hoarders I wouldn't want around me at all. I'm sure different people respond best to different approaches but when I hear any kind of a condescending attitude or harshness I shut right down. In sadness, shame and fear not anger.

You sound like a great cleaner to lead a clean-up and I'm sure as you continue you'll be very successful and much loved for the respect you bring for others, for the compassion for their situation and for the relief they experience when you show them they are worth living in a clean home. Dianne :)

Hi Dianne,

Thank you so much. :D

You asked some great questions. :D

Well I actually never even thought about becoming an extreme cleaner until about a year and a half ago when I started having a crush a Cory Chalmers and Matt Paxton. They were actually the reason I started watching the show "HOARDERS" in the first place. But then as I kept watching the show I started to realize that I can relate to some of the hoarders. Because I noticed that a lot of the hoarders that are on the show have had trauma in their life and have dealt with depression like I have. I know a lot of people might find what I am about to say a little strange, and it wasn't until I did my first clean-up that I realized it, but I find helping hoarders to be kind of therapeutic for me because I like helping people that I feel like I can relate too. :)

When I did my first clean-up the first thing I did was walk around the house to see how bad the hoard was. And then I spent some time with the hoarders and the family to talk about how the hoard got so bad and why they started hoarding in the first place. Then after I did that, I started to make a plan for the clean-up. :)

Actually it doesn't overwhelm me at all. I love the really big hoards. The bigger the hoard, the better. :)

Well with my first clean-up I didn't have to do any research because it was mostly family that helped with the clean-up and we took most of the stuff to the dump and took all of the donatable items to Goodwill. But I'm pretty sure that when I start to help people that aren't my relatives, I will have to do some research to find out where to take all the stuff that the hoarder wants to get rid of. :)

Well when I did my first clean-up my aunt and uncle paid to take all the stuff to the dump. But again, as I start helping people that I'm not related to, I will probably be the one that has to pay. But of course, as I start to help more and more people, I hope to start getting paid for helping them. So I won't really mind it that much. :)

Well the 2 hoarders that I helped on my first clean-up were actually very cooperative and they didn't really complain a lot. But when they would get stressed out I would just call a small break and let them relax and tell me what they are thinking and feeling. I actually think that the physical stress was more stressful than the emotional stress. Because by the end of every day that we worked on the clean-up, all of us were so exhausted from it and all we wanted to do was fall over. The clean-up took about a week to finish and everyone who helped with it, worked their butts off. :)

Hi MayMay,

Congratulations on getting another clean-up job!

I have a couple questions if that's ok. Why do you want to get into hoard clean-ups? How do you even know where to start when you look at a level 5 house? Doesn't it overwhelm you? Do you have to research an area to know who to get for help or where to take stuff? Who pays for all that when it's not a TV show? How do you deal with the emotional and physical stress of the people?

It's wonderful that you want to help people in that way because surely they need a young, energetic, positive person to support them. But what draws you to it?

Well that was more than a couple questions :)

Good luck with the March work! They will be very fortunate to have your help!

take care ~~ Dianne

I'm so HAPPY right now!!!!! :D

One of my aunt and uncles from my Dad's side of the family in Houston has just asked me to help them clean out their friend's level 5 hoarded house. :)

I'm so EXCITED about it!!!!! :D

This will be my second time leading a major clean-up. :)

It turns out that my aunt and uncle from my dad's side of the family that live in Seattle, called my aunt and uncle who live in Houston, and told them about what a great job I did leading the clean-up of my aunt's parents hoarded house in Seattle back in November of last year. So my aunt and uncle from Houston decided that they want me to lead the clean-up of their friend's hoarded house too. :)

The clean-up won't be until next month though.

I will be leaving for Houston on March 9th to go and help lead the clean-up, and I won't be back until March 24th. :)

I can't wait until then! I'm so EXCITED!!!!! :D
