Hi Cathy, I would recomment contacting the hospitals social worker and advise them of the living conditions of the home. They will most likely help you. We get a lot of calls from hospital social workers asking us to help clean a patients home before they are discharged. Many times they won't discharge them until the residence is safe. I am sure she will be at a rehab center for a while recovering so there is a little more time. And, yes you can call APS, but they are pretty limited on what they can do if she doesn't want help. All they can do is offer help, unless she lets them inside, then they can report her living conditions to other city departments that will get involved. Keep in mind, your friend is not going to be happy with you at all, so like you said this will all come to a head and you can expect some pretty terrible things said to you. I wish you luck with our friend, and hope she understands you are doing this out of love for her.
