I'm reaching out trying to find someone who might understand what I'm going through right now. My 78 yr old mother was found deceased, surrounded by shoulder high mounds of trash and belongings in her hoarded home. I'm 5-11 and my sister is 5-10...we could not see the windows in most of the rooms. It's been 15 yrs since my sister has been in my mother's house and 8-10 for me. I need someone who has been through similar circumstances to chat with. I feel that there are few people I can turn to, because this topic causes such deep shame within me.

Rebecca, how awful. I am so so sorry. I hope you can find a way to cast aside the shame and a way to live with any guilt. She was your mother, and I know that she does not want you to be hard on yourself. I am so sorry.

My most sincere condolences.

Unfortunately this is a very common thing to happen.
For years they don't allow people inside as the clutter gets deeper and deeper.

Please set any shame aside.
There was really nothing you could have done to prevent this.

I have not experienced this myself, yet.
But should he die before me I will inherit his hoard to clean out.
There is nothing I can do because he refuses to change.
There was nothing you could do since she didn't want to change.
