I'm new to the board but have suspected the H word applies to me for awhile now.
When my husband and I got married we fought for many years about the cleanliness of the house. He would become very angry, clearing things off of surfaces by throwing them, and breaking things. Overtime he came to the conclusion that our marriage is more important than fighting about the house. As I realize I have a problem, I see that he has a hoarding tendency now as well.
I'm sad to think that I influenced him in a negative way, but he is very supportive of my seeking help and getting counseling, etc. I hope that by my getting help it will help him as well and we can look forward to an uncluttered future together.
I also worry about what influence this has had on our adult children and now our grandchildren.
One of our granddaughters lives with us and the cleanliness of our home has been a source of contention between myself and her mother.
We host Christmas Eve and Christmas day for our entire extended family every year, and they know the state of our home. It always ends up with me being stressed, angry, & rushed at the last minute moving things, cleaning and hiding clutter. I fully intend to have my house clutter free by Christmas this year so that my family can see a change.
I'm so glad I found this forum & look forward to the journey we are all on together ❤️
